TUESDAY, August 1 at 7pm: More from MISS TROLLEY'S KITCHEN

Inspired by the delightful and much buzzed-about essay collection"Alone in the Kitchen with an Eggplant: Confessions of Cooking for One and Dining Alone", edited by Jenni Ferrari-Adler, Trolley crafts a session focused on culinary guilty pleasures made for one and one alone.

In the collection, 26 food writers invite readers into their kitchens to reflect on the secret meals and recipes for one person that they relish when no one else is looking. Part solace, part celebration, part handbook, "Alone in the Kitchen with an Eggplant" offers a wealth of company, inspiration, and humor—and finally, solo recipes in these essays about food that require no division or subtraction.

Miss Trolley invites you to bring your own favorite guilty pleasure recipes to share!

Presented live in voice.

AND DON'T FORGET!  @9PM - SEANCHAI LATE NIGHT with Shandon Loring!

A MARTIAN ODYSSEY @ 9pm

Early in the 21st century, nearly twenty years after the invention of atomic power and ten years after the first lunar landing, the four-man crew of the Ares has landed on Mars in the Mare Cimmerium. A week after the landing, Dick Jarvis, the ship's American chemist, sets out south in an auxiliary rocket to photograph the landscape. Eight hundred miles out, the engine on Jarvis' rocket gives out, and he crash-lands into one of the Thyle regions. Rather than sit and wait for rescue, Jarvis decides to walk back north to the Ares. Just after crossing into the Mare Chronium, Jarvis comes across a tentacled Martian creature attacking a large birdlike creature. He notices that the birdlike Martian is carrying a bag around its neck, and recognizing it as an intelligent being, saves it from the tentacled monstrosity. The rescued creature refers to itself as Tweel. Tweel accompanies Jarvis on his trip back to the Ares, in the course of which the pair encounter many bizarre Martian creatures and endure numerous life-threatening adventures.

WEDNESDAY, July 26th at 7pm: Selections from DIVINE SECRETS OF THE YA YA SISTERHOOD

"It's life.  You don't figure it out.  You just climb up on the beast and ride."

When Siddalee Walker, oldest daughter of Vivi Abbott Walker, Ya-Ya extraordinaire, is interviewed in the New York Times about a hit play she’s directed, her mother gets described as a “tap-dancing child abuser.”

Enraged, Vivi disowns Sidda. Devastated, Sidda begs forgiveness, and postpones her upcoming wedding. All looks bleak until the Ya-Yas step in and convince Vivi to send Sidda a scrapbook of their girlhood mementos, called “Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.”

As Sidda struggles to analyze her mother, she comes face to face with the tangled beauty of imperfect love, and the fact that forgiveness, more than understanding, is often what the heart longs for.

TUESDAY, July 25th at 7pm: WHAT'S COOKIN' IN MISS TROLLEY'S KITCHEN?

Cooking is not difficult. Everyone has taste, even if they don't realize it. Even if you're not a great chef, there's nothing to stop you understanding the difference between what tastes good and what doesn't.   ~ Gerard Depardieu

Cooking is like painting or writing a song. Just as there are only so many notes or colors, there are only so many flavors - it's how you combine them that sets you apart.    ~ Wolfgang Puck

TUESDAY, July 18th at 7pm: MORE WORDS from Stephen Vincent Benét

Still image from the 1954 Movie Musical "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers"
which was based on Benét' short story "The Sobbin' Women."

Stephen Vincent Benét adapted the Roman myth of the abduction of the Sabine Women into the story "The Sobbin' Women".

Set in 1850 in the wilds of Oregon, the Pontipee brothers are tired of bad cooking and broken chairs. They draw straws and send one of their number traveling from their mountain into the nearest town to "get a woman to take care of this place."  They agree that it can't just be a "hired girl" -that wouldn't be proper.  There's nothing for it, one of them has to do right by the family and get married.

It sounds like such a reasonable plan to a bunch of backwoodsman brothers.  Of course, it turns out to not be quite as simple as all that.

Benét's story was adapted into the 1954 movie musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, starring Howard Keel and Jane Powell, Directed by Stanley Donan and with iconic choreography by Michael Kidd. Enjoy this clip in which the oldest brother ("Adam" in the screenplay) "interprets" Plutarch  as an object lesson for his brothers.

Join Corwyn, Kayden, and Caledonia in the Seanchai "SKai" Box for Benét's story, and more selected poems, live in voice.

Dodd has not seen him since the report of his injury, and "not a word for six months and more". Since Emsworth has always been such a good friend, Dodd believes something is amiss.

TUESDAY, July 11th at 7PM: IN STEPHEN'S WORDS

Stephen Vincent Benét was an American poet, short story writer, and novelist. Benét is best known for his book-length narrative poem of the American Civil War, "John Brown's Body" (1928), for which he won a Pulitzer Prize in 1929, and for two short stories, "The Devil and Daniel Webster" (1936) and "By the Waters of Babylon" (1937).

His story "The Sobbin' Women" was adapted into a motion picture in 1954, featuring music by Johnny Mercer and retitled "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers."  The screenplay and score have since been adapted for the stage. In 2009, The Library of America selected Benét’s story "The King of the Cats" (1929) for inclusion in its two-century retrospective of American Fantastic Tales, edited by Peter Straub.

Corwyn Allen presents "Jacob and the Indians" plus selected poems, time permitting, live in voice.

SUNDAY, July 9th at 1:30pm: TEA TIME at Baker Street Returns

Have you missed him?  Conan-Doyle's "Great Detective."  While we have been involving ourselves with moves, Fantasy Faires, and Other Detectives, Sherlock Holmes has been taking a break.  Now he's back with THE CASEBOOK OF SHERLOCK HOLMES, in a brand new series of adventures we have not presented in over three years.

THIS WEEK: The Adventure of the Illustrious Client.

Sir James Damery comes to see Holmes and Watson about his illustrious client's problem (the client's identity is never revealed to the reader, although Watson finds out at the end of the story). General de Merville's young daughter Violet has fallen in love with the roguish and sadistic Austrian Baron Adelbert Gruner, whom Damery and Holmes are convinced is a shameless philanderer and a murderer. The victim was his last wife, of whose murder he was acquitted owing to a legal technicality and a witness's untimely death.

How will Holmes dissuade a woman in love, where others (including her father) have failed.

Join us in the Fireside Room as we launch a new series of Holmesian adventures, live in voice.
