MONDAY, April 30th at 7:00pm: "The Clairvoyant Countess" Concludes

Marina Karitska predicted three things when she first met Police Lt Pruden: his gravely ill father would recover his health, he would meet the woman destined to be his wife, and he himself would nearly lose his life.  Two of those three things have actually come to pass.  Will the third prediction come to pass?  Will Pruden become a student of Fate in which. as Madame suggests, the big decisions are predestined and we like chess pieces on a cosmic game board?  Come, find out, decide for yourself as Caledonia concludes Dorothy Gilman's "The Clairvoyant Countess."

Presented live in voice.

Thursday April 26th at 7pm - IRISH GODS AND HEROES

IRISH GODS AND HEROES
Balor and Gubbaun
'In the day of long ago and the times that have disappeared for ever...'  The very words set the the imagination racing, heralding a strange and wonderful tale from the dawn of Ireland's past, when the old gods held sway and the lad was peopled by high kings and heroes.

Balor of the evil eye was the god of death whose one eye was said to be so malevolent that it could destroy anyone upon whom he gazed. Tonight we recount the story of when Balor met the Irish hero Gubbaun Saor, "the wondersmith".

Also:

Macha of the Gold Hair

Among the goddesses of Irish mythology there are few more terrible than Macha, who is said to personify battle and slaughter. She is one of the goddesses of war and is believed to hover over warriors, inspiring them with battle madness and urging them to cut off the heads of fallen enemies. There are several versions of Mocha's death, including one in which she was slain by Balor of the Evil Eye, but this version tonight, by Dermot O'Byrne, may be rather closer to the truth.

Pruden still incredulous at the power of this delightful, confidant woman who seems to know all, and admit nothing at the same time.

"I have experienced much in the way of wise men and prophets ... If psychologists and sociologists claim that we went form the Age of Anxiety into the Age of Alienation, then the next era - for survival, I assure you - must be the Age of Consciousness ... Lieutenant Pruden, almost every human being is asleep - we are sleepwalkers."

MONDAY, April 2 @ 7:00pm: Part 1 "The Clairvoyant Countess"

Madame Marina Karitska has a style all her own--a rare blend of psychic power, an exotic past, and an uncanny gift for common sense. But when a chance encounter with Detective-Lieutenant Pruden of the Police Department catapults her into the midst of a seamier side of life, she must use all her resources to keep danger at bay. Join author Dorothy Gilman's (The Mrs Polifax Detective Series, Tightrope Walker) charming and exotic Countess Marina Karitska on adventure and intrigue.

"Among clairvoyants it is common knowledge that to use such a gift for personal profit is to invite loss of the sixth sense. In all the years of her eventful life Madame Karitska had never accepted money for her readings, but some months ago--eking out a living as a milliner in Trafton--she had begun to have a series of dreams, all of them alike night after night. In these dreams she was walking along a street that was foreign to her, and inevitably she would come to a particular brownstone house and observe in the first-floor window a sign that read Madame Karitska, Readings. The brownstone was one of many on a shabby street, indistinguishable from the others except for the fact that its front door was painted a bright canary yellow."

Presented Live in Voice.

SUNDAY, April 1 @ 2PM - TEA TIME with Jane Austen

Caledonia continues her exploration of Austen with selections from on of the author's best known works, PRIDE AND PREDJUDICE (1813) It portrays life in the genteel rural society of the day, and tells of the initial misunderstandings and later mutual enlightenment between Elizabeth Bennet (whose liveliness and quick wit have often attracted readers) and the haughty Darcy. The title refers (among other things) to the ways in which Elizabeth and Darcy first view each other. The original version of the novel was written in 1796-1797 under the title First Impressions, and was probably in the form of an exchange of letters.

We've me most of the key players: Patient Mr. Bennet, Wacky Mrs. Bennet, Intelligent Elizabeth, Gentle Jane, to silly Bennet Sisters, Delightful Mr. Bingly, his Snobby Sisters, and of course the man for whom the word "haughty" seems to have been invented - Mr. Darcy.  But there are yet a few more players to add to Austen's cast of characters.  Come and see who shows up!
