THURSDAY, September 17th at 7pm: PIRATES!!!

International Talk Like a Pirate Day is a parodic holiday created in 1995 by John Baur (Ol' Chumbucket) and Mark Summers (Cap'n Slappy), of Albany, Oregon, U.S., who proclaimed September 19 each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like a pirate. An observer of this holiday would greet friends not with "Hello, everyone!" but with "Ahoy, maties!" or "Ahoy, me hearties!" The holiday, and its observance, springs from a romanticized view of the Golden Age of Piracy.

Seanchai Library staff and friends gather in anticipation of International Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19th), to share stories of salty sea dogs and high seas hi-jinks.

WEDNESDAY, September 16th at 7pm: "R is for RANDOM"

R. Dismantled presents randomly selected 100 word stories ("Drabble") live on the Story Floor!

Long ago, he swore an oath to write a 100 word story every day until the day he died. He's not dead yet. Check out http://oneadayuntilthedayidie.com/

Always unpredictable and irreverent, no subject is too sacred, no cow too holy for R. not to pull it out, examine it, and bang it on the table a few times before putting it back where he found it - albeit slightly crumpled.

AND, as if that weren't enough, he looks *good* in black!

Willow Moonfire reads selections from what is effectively the epilogue of Ursula K. Le Guin’s Earthsea saga.
Ged of Gont reminisces about his life in the comfort of his home as he prepares to pass on. Firelight is a short story full of warmth that brings closure to Earthsea, and also to Le Guin’s own life. Published posthumously, it’s hard not to hear Le Guin’s own voice in Ged’s — saying goodbye along with her beloved character.

@ 7PM: Cale's Greatest Hits
Twelve years ago a tortoise in a snap-brim hat whispered something about stories in her noobie ear, and then the rest became a blur.  Over those years, Cale has read a lot of stories, and some have become favorites - part of her "canon" as a presenter of tales.

Tonight Cale reads various short selections of popular stories that she has presented over the last 12 years, including Frank Stockton’s The Lady, or The Tiger, which formed her Seanchai audition piece. Also, selections from The Devious Book of Cats, and The Graveyard Book.
