SATURDAY, Jan 1, 2011 at 2pm: "Good Omens"

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  A New Year comes freshly unwrapped, full of hopes and possibilities - and a few predictions.  Well what could be better than the 1655 predictions of Agnes Nutter - Witch? Apparently the only full accurate predictions ever written.  In the hands of award-winning authors Neil Gaiman (The Graveyard Book, Stardust, the Sandman...and more) and Terry Pratchett (Discworld . . .and more) it is the Apocalypse with a healthy hysterical chaser.

The perfect balm for New Year's Day for the non-sports fan: The world is coming to an end on Saturday.  Next Saturday.  Just before dinner.  Luckily, Heaven and Hell have left the business with the Anti-Christ in the hands of Crowley and Aziraphale, demon and angel respectively. Now they have misplaced the Anti-Christ and pretty much decided they really like humanity a lot more than their either of their bosses.

Come dressed as your favorite: an Angel or a Devil. (Whispered) And don't worry, the Apocalyptic events in the book happened in the past - or have they?  Presented Live in Voice.

"Sahara is one of the most powerful and evocative names on the worldmap. As a child, the images I had of the Sahara were both frighteningand intriguing - palm trees, camels, turbanned travellers reclining, whilst being poured sparkling water by urn-carrying maidens in flimsyveils. It looked fun. I also knew that most western explorers whotried to cross it never came back. The combination of seduction andseverity appealed to me." THE WEEK THAT WAS: December 19 - 24

"Scrooge was better than his word. He did it all, and infinitely more; and to Tiny Tim, who did not die, he was a second father. He became as good a friend, as good a master, and as good a man, as the good old city knew, or any other good old city, town, or borough, in the good old world. Some people laughed to see the alteration in him, but he let them laugh, and little heeded them; for he was wise enough to know that nothing ever happened on this globe, for good, at which some people did not have their fill of laughter in the outset; and knowing that such as these would be blind anyway, he thought it quite as well that they should wrinkle up their eyes in grins, as have the malady in less attractive forms. His own heart laughed: and that was quite enough for him.

"He had no further intercourse with Spirits, but lived upon the Total Abstinence Principle, ever afterwards; and it was always said of him, that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge. May that be truly said of us, and all of us! And so, as Tiny Tim observed, God Bless Us, Every One! "

Eliot's Four Quartets, was begun during the Battle of Britain and published in 1942, another intense time in history.
