THURSDAY JULY 30th at 7pm: THE GIRL WHO LIVED ON THE MOON from Frank Delaney

THE GIRL WHO LIVED ON THE MOON

A new series of stories in the oral tradition from Frank Delaney...

At 6:45pm a special prologue "Mind Pictures" precedes our regular session...
A good story, well told, makes children of us all. At any age we will sit rapt and
still, instantaneously translating the storyteller's rise-and-fall words into the
vivid pictures that we see in our minds. Our own images. And only ours. The fireside storyteller did not supply his listeners with finite pictures - he gave them the paints and the crayons and they colored in the incandescent white of the moonbeam, or the hue of space...

Tonight: The Girl Who Lived on the Moon
Once upon a time there was a girl who lived on the moon." And when she comes to earth on a moonbeam, and grants the human race insights that would delight a Jungian and calm a six-year-old to sleep, we must wonder if times were different then, when "fish danced the polka on the surface of the sea and the birds said their prayers out loud.

WEDNESDAY, July 29th at 7 PM: THE CASE OF FOUR & TWENTY BLACKBIRDS and More

It's a night for some fun, Neil Gaiman style.

We're not sure how the award-winning Mr. Gaiman feels about these stories, but these are some of our favorites. Kayden and Caledonia present two short story gems, live in voice

"Chivalry" - Mrs. Whitaker leads the quiet life of a little old lady.  But Mrs. Whitaker has a talent for knick-knacks of significance.  And one day destiny comes calling.

"The Case of Four and Twenty Blackbirds" - Things are tough all over.  They are especially tough if you are a short, hard-boiled detective and someone's trying to pull one over on you, in the interest of getting away with murder.

TUESDAY, July 28th at 7 PM:More Selections from GO SET A WATCHMAN

GO SET A WATCHMAN follows an adult Scout Finch who travels from New York to Maycomb, Alabama, to visit her father, Atticus Finch, 20 years after the events of "To Kill a Mockingbird." According to the publisher, Scout "is forced to grapple with issues both personal and political as she tries to understand her father's attitude toward society and her own feelings about the place where she was born and spent her childhood."

Tonight: Scout experiences her first romance, and we get to find out why she enigmatically refers to herself as looking like" a bowling pin in the poofy white dress "when preparing for a local dance.  She takes steps to in preparation for this important social event - come join us to find out what happens.

Harper Lee's 1960 novel "To Kill A Mockingbird" is one of the great American literary works of the 20thC. This month, 55 years after her original work was released, GO SET A WATCHMAN has been published to an eager reading public.

THURSDAY JULY 23rd at 7pm: PIGSONG from Frank Delaney

PIGSONG

A new series of stories in the oral tradition from Frank Delaney...

At 6:45pm a special prologue "Anthropomorphism" precedes our regular session...
For an acknowledged 2,500 years, storytellers have been using, among their other tricks, a singularly wonderful device - they grant to animals the gifts and qualities, good and bad, of human beings. Their secondary powers, however, carry more clout - they teach...

Tonight: Pigsong
Once upon a time and long ago, when snow tasted like cream, and timber tasted like sweet cake, and every tenth egg laid by a duck had a diamond in it, there lived up in the North of Ireland a very bad man." Pigsong is charming and instructs, seduces, entertains and allows us to see how an oppressed culture might have learned the concept of justice through imagination.

TUESDAY, July 21st at 7:00pm: Side-by-Side with Harper Lee's GO SET A WATCHMAN

It is years after the incidents of To Kill A Mockingbird and Jean Louise Finch ("Scout") has returned to her home town of Maycomb.  Her Aunt Alexandra has decided to re-introduce her into Maycomb society with a "Coffee."  The young adult Scout is challenged by what she has already learned about being a "southern lady" and what she might wish to forget.

Trolley Trollop reads from Harper Lee's recently released second published work 55 years, written before her Pulitzer Prize-winner, and reads side-by-side comparisons of similar scenes from each book: Go Set a Watchman & To Kill A Mockingbird.

Presented live in voice.

Team Tea Time continues Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's collection of Sherlock Holmes Adventures -  "The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes.

TODAY: "The Adventure of the Resident Patient"

Doctor Percy Trevelyan brings Holmes an unusual problem. Having been a brilliant student but a poor man, Dr. Trevelyan has found himself a participant in an unusual business arrangement. A man named Blessington, claiming to have some money to invest, has set Dr. Trevelyan up in premises with a prestigious address and paid all his expenses. In return, he demands three-fourths of all the money that the doctor’s practice earns, which he collects every evening, going over the books thoroughly and leaving the doctor five shillings and threepence of every guinea from the day’s takings. Blessington is himself unwell, it turns out, and likes this arrangement because he can always have a doctor nearby.

Everything has gone fairly well for the doctor since the arrangement began. Now, however, something has happened to Mr. Blessington. He has become excitable and agitated this after he said that he had read about a burglary somewhere in the city.

THURSDAY JULY 16th at 7pm: THE SEA-FOLK from Frank Delaney

THE SEA-FOLK

A new series of stories in the oral tradition from Frank Delaney...

At 6:45pm a special prologue "Mythology as History" precedes our regular session...
Imaginative minds give themselves permission to read mythology as history. Legends arise out of practical need; a raider has to be repulsed; a dragon slain; a kingly alliance formed, perhaps through marriage, for mutual territorial interest.
But it goes deeper...

Tonight: The Sea-Folk
The names of those seaboard counties throb with atmosphere - Donegal, Sligo, Mayo, Galway, Clare, Kerry, and down and around to Cork and Waterford. Who knows what creatures came ashore from there in days so dark that their shadows had shadows? Or observed humans from out in the tide? And who knows how they interacted with the people on the land? The seanchai knew; that was his profession - to know the unknowable and tell it to the rest of us sitting around the fire. In some farmhouse, deep in the middle of a fertile county, where they never hear the surf, and never even glimpse a wandering sea-gull, they can only imagine the rampaging white horses of the waves as they gallop toward the shore, and the sad high notes of the mermaid's fatal song.

WEDNESDAY, July 15th at 7:00PM: THE TAIL OF EMILY WINDSNAP Concludes

It's time to bring our presentation of Liz Kessler's delightful debut book from the Emily Windsnap series to a conclusion, as Emily resolves the things that separated her family and charts a new course into the future, filled with possibilities and adventure.

TUESDAY, July 14th at 7:30pm: TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (Selected Chapters)

Harper Lee's new novel "Go Set A Watchman" releases today, and in the midst of the controversy and rumors around that release, Seanchai Library takes a moment to celebrate Ms. Lee's masterwork of 55 years ago.

Kayden Oconnell, Gyro Muggins and Caledonia Skytower will present a selection from her 1960 Pulitzer Prize Winning "To Kill A Mockingbird" in a special 90 minute reading from selected chapters, live in voice.

“I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do.”

Team Tea Time continues their newest series, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's next collection of Sherlock Holmes Adventures -  "The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes.

TODAY: "The Adventure of the Reigate Squire"

Watson takes Holmes to a friend's estate near Reigate in Surrey to rest after a rather strenuous case in France. Holmes finds that his services are needed here, but he also finds that his recent illness serves him well. His host is Colonel Hayter.

There has recently been a burglary at the nearby Acton estate in which the thieves stole a motley assortment of things, even a ball of twine, but nothing terribly valuable. Then one morning, the Colonel's butler tells news of a murder at another nearby estate, the Cunninghams'. The victim is William Kirwan, the coachman.

How convenient that the Great Detective is on hand to delve into this evolving web of crime and mayhem!

THURSDAY JULY 9th at 7pm: THE DRUID from Frank Delaney

THE DRUID

A new series of stories in the oral tradition from Frank Delaney...

At 6:45pm a special "Seanchai Prologue" precedes our regular session...
The wandering storyteller, the seanchai.. a universal archetype, all our ancestors encountered the Seanchai, or someone of the like, in every part of the world. Imagine, that you're sitting by the fire in an Irish farmhouse kitchen any time in the last few hundred years, and an old man with a  long parchment face comes in, shakes the weather from the shoulders of his long black coat, sits down, accepts a glass of whiskey, lights his pipe and begins...

Tonight: The Druid
Our ancient times knew very few people as important as druids. They were wise men whose advice was sought by kings and commoners. But of course now and then you'd find a few rogues, a few unscrupulous tricksters. Like the man I'm going to tell you about...
