by Patricia Wrightson -
THE ICE IS COMING

Wirrun is an Australian "Man of the People" living in the white world.  When newspapers tell of strange Spring freezes he suspects the Ice People are trying to break free.  The last time they were free is what the white people call "the ice age."  Wirrun goes on walkabout trying to learn how to stop them.

SUNDAY, June 30th at 1:30pm: TEA TIME with Jeeves

Tea Time strolls lightly into summer and the world of author and humorist P.G. Wodehouse, featuring two of his most memorable characters: Bertie Wooster and his inscrutable valet, Jeeves.

Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse KBE was an English author and one of the most widely read humorists of the 20th century. Most of Wodehouse's fiction is set in England, although he spent much of his life in the US and used New York and Hollywood as settings for some of his novels and short stories. He wrote a series of Broadway musical comedies during and after the First World War, together with Guy Bolton and Jerome Kern, that played an important part in the development of the American musical. He began the 1930s writing for MGM in Hollywood.

The Jeeves canon is a series of comedic stories following Bertie Wooster and his valet Jeeves, consisting of 35 short stories and 11 novels. With minor exceptions, the short stories were written and published first (between 1915 and 1930); the novels later (between 1934 and 1974). While the series of stories featuring the character of Jeeves are often referred to as the "Jeeves" stories, the series is also called by other names such as the "Jeeves and Wooster" or "Jeeves and Bertie" stories.

The stories for this series are drawn from "My Man Jeeves", a collection of various short stories by Wodehouse first published in the United Kingdom in May 1919. Tea Time will focus on the four stories that feature these popular characters

THURSDAY June 27th at 7pm: Monsters & Myth - HECATE pt2

"Death can be outwitted but never overcome"
Monsters & Mythology
HECATE pt2

Hecate, Queen of the Harpies. Sprung from the bowels of the Underworld, this leather-winged monster torments the enemies of Hades. Chief among these enemies are Orpheus, the poet whose songs call souls to life, Asclepius, son of Apollo and heir to that god's medical skills, and Telesphora, who possesses a healing touch. Each separately falls victim to Hecate's cruel schemes, but together they frustrate her efforts to deprive the mortal world of its two most divine practices, poetry and medicine. The tale of Hecate depicts a world where pain and suffering threaten human love, and where death can be outwitted but never overcome. It is also a world in which compassion undoes cruelty, joy supersedes rancor, and courage sustains human endeavors into death's mysterious realm. Here, then, are the great contraries of human existence -- encompassed in the world of myth.

WEDNESDAY, June 19th at 7pm: THE MENACE FROM EARTH

An encore 8 years in the making!  Derry McMahon, Bear Silvershade, and Caledonia Skytower come
together again to present Robert A. Heinlein's story of young love, life on a lunar colony, tourism, and taking flight in more ways than one.

Young love is often hard on those experiencing it for the first time. Take 15-year-old Holly, for example. A lunar colonist and aspiring starship designer, who has something of a crush on her closest male friend, Jeff, with whom she shares a particular passion: that of flying.

Another element to life on the Moon is that of tourism: playing host to “groundhogs”, as the locals call them, who like to visit the Moon. One such tourist is Ariel, a glamorous woman to whom Holly is assigned to as a guide.

It all goes well to start with – until Holly introduces Ariel to Jeff. To her dismay, Holly find herself facing The Menace From Earth: Jeff is quite smitten with Ariel. As her jealousy grow, so Holly starts to resent Ariel more and more – but what to do?

Presented, live on stream.

TUESDAY, June 18th at 7PM: THE PENDERWICKS IN SPRING Begins

Caledonia brings us to some old friends with a new adventure... Jeanne Birdsall's Penderwick Family.

Springtime is finally arriving on Gardam Street, and with it comes all the joyful chaos of the Penderwicks. The brood has grown to six with the addition of Lydia, the new youngest sibling, and there are surprises in store for all.

Some surprises are just wonderful, like Nick Geiger coming home from war. And some are ridiculous, like Batty’s new dog-walking business, which has resulted in her spending an inordinate amount of time with Duchess, a very fat dachshund, and Cilantro, a wrinkled shar-pei with a bark like a lovelorn tuba. Batty is saving up her dog-walking money for an extra-special surprise for her family, which she plans to present on her upcoming birthday. The timing is perfect: Rosalind will be home from college, Skye and Jane will put their bothersome teenage worries aside to celebrate, and Jeffrey, honorary Penderwick and Batty’s musical mentor, will be visiting from Boston. But when an unwelcome surprise arrives, the best-laid plans fall apart.

Filled with all the heart, hilarity, and charm that have come to define this beloved clan, The Penderwicks in Spring is about fun and family and friends (and dogs), and what happens when you bring what’s hidden into the bright light of the spring sun.

Caledonia presents, live on stream.

THURSDAY, June 13th at 7pm: HOWLING AT THE MOON - Stories & Poems of a Lunar Nature

“O, swear not by the moon, th' inconstant moon, That monthly changes in her circle orb, Lest that thy love prove likewise variable.”

― William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

Okay, wrong Shakespeare play!

But why is the moon "inconstant", and what makes everyone from lovers to lunatics go a bit "loony" under it's cool lunar rays? Caledonia shares selected poem and stories to explore different views of the moon at Aoife Lorefield's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" Project at Linden Endowment for the Arts Region 2, tonight.

TUESDAY, June 11th at 7pm: CRENSHAW Continues

What critics say about Katherine Applegate's Crenshaw:

"... Applegate's prose is simple and poetic enough to appeal to literary adults, children who struggle with reading and just about everyone in between. And in “Crenshaw,” her human characters are everything the huge cat is not. Jackson is witty and wise and struggles against problems too big for him. His parents’ hardships are achingly real, but their love for Jackson is equally palpable. We love this intermittently homeless family — not because we pity them, but because we admire them.“Crenshaw” is not for every child. But if the reader can handle some tough facts of life, she will be richly rewarded. Not by the huge mammal. By the humans."

~ Adam Gidwitz, The New York Times

Caledonia continues Katherine Applegate's unforgettable and magical story about family, friendship, and resilience; proving in unexpected ways that friends matter, whether real or imaginary. Caledonia presents, live on stream.
