"We have assumed control"
RUSH 2112: ANTHEM
Tonight we begin our exploration of a famous musical album and the two stories behind it...

2112 is concept album by the band RUSH released in 1976 that uses music to tell a dystopian story set in the year 2112...

In the year 2062, a galaxy-wide war results in the union of all planets under the rule of the Red Star of the Solar Federation. By 2112, the world is controlled by the "Priests of the Temples of Syrinx", who determine the content of every facet of life. Then a man discovers a guitar and learns to play different kind of music.

The album is loosely based on the novella 'Anthem' by Ayn Rand that takes place at an unspecified future date when mankind has entered another Dark Age. Technological advancement is now carefully planned and the concept of individuality has been eliminated. A young man known as Equality 7-2521 rebels by doing secret scientific research. When his activity is discovered, he flees into the wilderness with the girl he loves.

[And as a bonus for any Ready Player One fans, when Parzival plays the song Discovery from this album it leads to a hidden message essential to unlocking the third gate after finding the Crystal Key.]

TUESDAY, May 29th at 7PM: THE COLD DISH Continues

Two years ago, four boys were put on trial for raping a Cheyenne girl. Now one of them – Cody Pritchard – is dead, shot and dumped in with a local farmer’s sheep.

For Walt Longmire, it means his hope of finishing out his term as sheriff of Wyoming’s Absaroka county in peace and quiet is at an end; instead, he finds himself in the middle of a murder investigation.

Plenty of people had cause for wanting Cody Prichard dead but who had the guts to do the deed? And are his three compadres next on the hit list? For Longmire, it means facing one of the more volatile and challenging cases in his twenty-four years as sheriff. One in which he means to ensure that revenge, so often regarded as a dish best served cold, is never served at all.

Join Kayden OConnell as he reads the first volume of Craig Johnson’s tales of Sheriff Walt Longmire.

SUNDAY, May 27th at 1:30pm: TEA TIME on the African Queen,...and More!

Join us for a Special Holiday Weekend Event ...

@ 1:30pm: TEA TIME on The African Queen
Corwyn, Kayden, and Cale live in voice in Ceiliúradh Glen on Holly Kai as they present the Lux Radio Theater script of The African Queen, based on C.S. Forrester's novel and the 1951 motion picture.

The story opens in August/September 1914. Rose Sayer, a 33-year-old Englishwoman, is the companion and housekeeper of her brother Samuel, an Anglican missionary in German-colonized Tanganyika (present-day Tanzania). World War I has recently begun, and the German military commander of the area has conscripted all the natives; the village is deserted, and only Rose and her dying brother remain. Samuel dies during the night and Rose is alone. That day, another man arrives at the village: this is a Cockney named Allnutt, who is the mechanic and skipper of the African Queen, a steam-powered launch, owned by a Belgian mining corporation, that plies the upper reaches of the Ulanga River. Allnutt's two-man crew has deserted him at the rumors of war and conscription. Allnutt buries Samuel Sayer and takes Rose back to the African Queen, where they consider what they should do.

@ 2:30pm Jungle Boogie
DJ Dano Bookmite spins tunes from 1951-53, and some special selections with a jungle beat.  Put on your dancing shoes (or take them off!) in Ceiliúradh Glen for a wild time, and some great fun.

WEDNESDAY, May 16th at 7PM: HELLO UNIVERSE, Begins

Newbery Medalist Erin Entrada Kelly’s Hello, Universe is a funny and poignant neighborhood story
about unexpected friendships.

In one day, four lives weave together in unexpected ways. Virgil Salinas is shy and kindhearted and feels out of place in his crazy-about-sports family. Valencia Somerset, who is deaf, is smart, brave, and secretly lonely, and she loves everything about nature. Kaori Tanaka is a self-proclaimed psychic, whose little sister, Gen, is always following her around. And Chet Bullens wishes the weird kids would just stop being so different so he can concentrate on basketball.

They aren’t friends, at least not until Chet pulls a prank that traps Virgil and his pet guinea pig at the bottom of a well. This disaster leads Kaori, Gen, and Valencia on an epic quest to find missing Virgil. Through luck, smarts, bravery, and a little help from the universe, a rescue is performed, a bully is put in his place, and friendship blooms.

TUESDAY, May 15th at 7PM: THE COLD DISH Begins

Our Kayden is back with a new adventure with a distinctly Western flavor.

New York Times bestselling author Craig Johnson introduces Sheriff Walt Longmire of Wyoming’s Absaroka County. Johnson draws on his deep attachment to the American West to produce a literary mystery of stunning authenticity, and full of memorable characters.

On the autumnal side of twenty-four years as sheriff of Absaroka County, which is located at the base of the Big Horn Mountains and next to the Northern Cheyenne Reservation, Walt is looking for a quiet period to finish out his tenure but instead finds himself embroiled in the most volatile and challenging case of his career. With lifelong friend Henry Standing Bear, Deputy Victoria Morretti, and a cast of characters tragic and humorous enough to fill in the vast emptiness of the high plains, Walt Longmire attempts to see that revenge, a dish best served cold, is never served at all.

No heroes today!  Indeed, no sword-wielding men, knife-bearing Elves, or axe-tossing Dwarves this day! Today's Tea Time celebrates the Elders of Middle Earth - so old they can just remember when the young Elves arrived and began re-naming everything: Beorn, Tom Bombadil, Treebeard.

We visit two of these Elders, with selections from "The Fellowship of the Ring" and "The Two Towers."

TUESDAY, May 8th at 7PM: "I WENT TO THE FAIRE..."

Seanchai Library went to Fantasy Faire for ten days, and many stories were told.  Our Caledonia was there for over two weeks, preparing and then overseeing operations for the LitFest.

Remarkably, she wields a pen almost as handily as she wields a sword, or changes out chair set-ups; and actually she wrote some things - quite a few things.  Tonight she shares selections from the stories and poems she write at this year's Fantasy Faire.

MONDAY May 7th at 7pm: THE CRUCIBLE OF TIME

THE CRUCIBLE OF TIME
- by John Brunner -
Far off in space is an alien race which is so much like us, yet so un-alike. From the birth of their earliest civilization through to their attainment of star flight as their star system passes through the galaxy, we follow their development through the ages.
Aquatic by nature, this race presents some significant challenges well outside the realms of anything encountered by humanity. But they are also driven by all too familiar hopes, fears, desires, needs, wants, prejudices, impact of religious ideologies, and the quest for knowledge we have experienced in the growth of our own civilization.
