WEDNESDAY, September 18th at 7pm: TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE PIRATE DAY!

In one of the many Seanchai Library traditions, it is that time again. As we crack open the door to the High Story Season, we begin with a fanciful embrace of the buccaneer mythos - PIRATES! Thursday is International Talk Like a Pirate Day, after all!

"Pirates are hearty
They’re bluff and they’re loud
They’ll always have fun
On their own or in crowds

"Some have an eye patch
And some have a hook
In place of the hand
That a crocodile took

"They’re usually friendly
Despite all your fears
But if you should cross them
They’ll cut off your ears . . ."

Tonight we share everything from the sublime to the ridiculous. Everything from the madcap George the Pirate Stories, to a selection from Rafael Sabbatini's Captain Blood, to The Flying Dutchman.

R. Crap Mariner, Corwyn Allen, Da5id Abbot, Zander Greene, and Caledonia Skytower, live in Voice at The Pirate Cove.

TUESDAY, September 17th at 7pm: PEBBLES LIKE POEMS, LIKE JAZZ

Cale: "Have we done 'Pebbles' at Seanchai?"
Kt: "No. Wanna try an experiment?"
Cale: "Let's do it!"

They are beautiful little things, scattered along the beach. How to see inside a mountain? Look at a pebble. They come in many colors, shapes, sizes, textures. I started picking them up for a friend who is a painter, then for myself. I took close-up photographs of them to show detail. The macro lens sees better than my aging eyes.

The first new poem I wrote after a 20-year hiatus was "A Pebble." Pebbles have since been a part of many other poems. They are jazz notes on the beach, improvised by tide and current, each 12-hour peak a new arrangement. They inspire me: enduring beauty.

"passion and loss, love and violence"
THE BLUE SALT ROAD
by Joanne M. Harris (author of Chocolat)
So begins a stunning tale of love, loss and revenge, against a powerful backdrop of adventure on the high seas, and drama on the land. The Blue Salt Road balances passion and loss, love and violence and draws on nature and folklore to weave a stunning modern mythology around a nameless, wild young man.
Passion drew him to a new world, and trickery has kept him there - without his memories, separated from his own people. But as he finds his way in this dangerous new way of life, so he learns that his notions of home, and your people, might not be as fixed as he believed.

WEDNESDAY, September 4th at 7pm: ANNE OF GREEN GABLES Begins

Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery's 1908 novel was written for all ages,  It has been considered a classic children's novel since the mid-twentieth century. Set in the late 19th century, the novel recounts the adventures of Anne Shirley, an 11-year-old orphan girl, who is mistakenly sent to two middle-aged siblings, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, who had originally intended to adopt a boy to help them on their farm in the fictional town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island. The novel recounts how Anne makes her way through life with the Cuthberts, in school, and within the town.

Since its publication, Anne of Green Gables has sold more than 50 million copies and has been translated into at least 36 languages. Montgomery wrote numerous sequels, and since her death, another sequel has been published, as well as an authorized prequel. The original book is taught to students around the world. The book has been adapted as films, made-for-television movies, and animated and live-action television series. Musicals and plays have also been created, with productions annually in Europe and Japan.

Faerie Maven-Pralou shares the beginning of Anne's journey, beginning tonight - live in voice.

TUESDAY, September 3rd at 7pm: CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG Concludes

So, you think you know the story because of the film? Well, guess again! The famous 1968 film can best be described as being loosely based on the children’s story by Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond.

Last week we left the Pott Family in northern France, where they were about to blow up a smugglers cave full of stolen guns and assorted explosives. The fuse had just been lit.  Join us for the *BOOM* and the exciting conclusion as the Pott's summer picnic to the seaside continues its race through a thrilling adventure.

Join Caledonia Skytower to discover Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!
