SUNDAY, March 31st at 1:30pm: TEA TIME at Baker Street!

Caledonia Skytower continues with the second of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's short story collections about the adventures of his famous detective and the doings generated from Baker Street: "The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes" ~ THE ADVENTURE OF THE GREEK INTERPRETER.

On a summer evening, while engaged in an aimless conversation that has come round to the topic of hereditary attributes, Doctor Watson learns that Sherlock Holmes, far from being a one-off in terms of his powers of observation and deductive reasoning, in fact has an elder brother whose skills, or so Holmes claims, outstrip even his own. As a consequence of this, Watson becomes acquainted with the Diogenes Club and his friend's brother, Mycroft.

Mycroft, as Watson learns, does not have the energy of his younger brother and as a consequence is incapable of using his great skills for detective work. In spite of his inertia, the elder Holmes has often delivered the correct answer to a problem that Sherlock has brought to him. On this occasion, however, it is Mycroft who has need to consult Sherlock. Mr. Melas, a Greek interpreter and neighbour of Mycroft, tells of a rather unnerving experience he has recently gone through.  Caledonia Skytower in Voice.

Caledonia reads selections from her newest "about-to-be-released" collection ...

"This is a collection of stories that all begged to be written.  I am told those are the best ones to share, but I leave that for you to decide.  It is a mix of fictional fancies and non-fiction essays.  Sometimes “reality” and “fancy” are woven together into the same piece, while others define themselves clearly as one or the other.  Again, I happily yield to the reader to enjoy them and make their own judgments. I am not telling!"

THURSDAY MARCH 21st at 7PM: HILO LEGENDS

On the eastern side of the Island of Hawaii there is a crescent shaped bay where the old town of Hilo snuggles closely against the sloping hills. Polynesian peoples worked and played here for a thousand years before James Cook came in 1778. On rainshrouded days, when the hills and mountains are buried in mist and the Wailuku River roars to the sea, one senses that ghosts of the ancients still watch over old Hilo town. These are the very localized tales of this tiny spot in paradise.

"I have desired, like every artist, to create a little world out of the beautiful, pleasant, and significant things of this marred and clumsy world, and to show in a vision something of the face of Ireland to any of my own people who would look where I bid them. I have therefore written down accurately and candidly much that I have heard and seen, and, except by way of commentary, nothing that I have merely imagined.”

THURSDAY MARCH 14th at 7PM: St. Patrick's Day Tales of Irish Earth Folk

From the book IRISH EARTH FOLKby Diarmuid Mac Manus
There is an ancient and continuing spirit life in the countryside. There are also silly people who gibe and jeer at the whole subject. This book brings this matter to the realm of logic, to be examined coolly and sympathetically. By reviewing the traditional background, as well as given accounts of curious happenings, this book will help listeners to start thinking out these matters for themselves.

And 15 years thereafter he returned to his native Kerry, his blitheness sobered and his youth dried to the core, and whether he had made his fortune or whether he had not no one could be knowing for certain. For he was a quiet man, not given to talking about himself and the things he had done..."

SUNDAY, March 10th @ 1:30pm: TEA TIME at Baker Street!

Caledonia continues with the second of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's short story collections about the adventures of his famous detective and the doings generated from Baker Street: "The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes."  This week:  THE ADVENTURE OF THE RESIDENT PATIENT.

Doctor Percy Trevelyan brings Holmes an unusual problem. Having been a brilliant student but a poor man, Dr. Trevelyan has found himself a participant in an unusual business arrangement. A man named Blessington, claiming to have some money to invest, has set Dr. Trevelyan up in premises with a prestigious address and paid all his expenses. In return, he demands three-fourths of all the money that the doctor’s practice earns, which he collects every evening, going over the books thoroughly and leaving the doctor five shillings and threepence from the day’s takings. Blessington is himself infirm, it turns out, and likes this arrangement because he can always have a doctor nearby.

Everything has gone fairly well for the doctor since the arrangement began. Now, however, something has happened to Mr. Blessington. He has become excitable and agitated, this after he said that he had read about a burglary somewhere in the city.
