Friday June 1st at 7pm: SURF NAKED!

SURF NAKED! A Fail-Proof How-to Guide to Surfing for Adults Only!
Most surfing guides teach you to become a clique member. You are taught to think you are a kook, then, a Barney, then, an expert asshole local. Good news: there is no social strata; there is no ideal. You can learn to surf by having the right equipment, discipline, and consistency. Basically, if you purchase the equipment and surf every single day you can and keep at it, you will get it. SURFING NAKED means you go without inhibition. You embody the charge. Join Shandon tonight for a wonderful look at how to learn to surf, and how to learn a something about life at the same time.

WE HAVE A YOU TUBE CHANNEL!

Now remember, this was a LIVE presentation, so there are imperfections, and you will here Cale stop, pause, and react to things being typed in local chat, as well as whisper the occassional greeting to someone who has arrived. Thursday May 31st at 7pm: RETURN BY WATER

WEDNESDAY, May 30th at 7pm: M.M Kaye "The Ordinary Princess" Part 2

Along with Wit, Charm, Health, and Courage, Princess Amy of Phantasmorania receives a special fairy christening gift: Ordinariness. Unlike her six beautiful sisters, she has brown hair and freckles, and would rather have adventures than play the harp, embroider tapestries . . . or become a Queen. When her royal parents try to marry her off, Amy runs away and, because she's so ordinary, easily becomes the fourteenth assistant kitchen maid at a neighboring palace. And there . . . much to everyone's surprise . . . she meets a prince just as ordinary (and special) as she is! Part 2, story in voice.

MONDAY, May 28th at 7PM: BEGGAR'S DAY Begins!

A hysterical, and delightful fantasy adventure by first time author MJ McGalliard. The Kingdom of Galaway has a law that every ruler must work a year and a day as a commoner. The lazy and indulgent Prince Larry looks likely to fail. Former slave, Brishee is conscripted to quest after The Lost Artifact, The Shield of Many Uses and the fate of Prince Monaghan with Larry as her servant. But, the evil brother-in-law Percy looks to usurp the throne through conspiracy and murder. The owner of The Feathered Pig, Maddie is sent to verify the test.

Why does Cruith steal King Willy's chickens? Why is she always the first in line to beg the King's Ear on Beggar's Day? The truths begin to unravel as BEGGAR'S DAY begins.

Click Here to find out more about BEGGAR'S DAY, and author MJ McGalliard.

Presented Live in Voice.

THURSDAY May 24th at 7pm: Surfings Greatest Misadventures

SURFING'S GREATEST MISADVENTURES
Stories that go beyond thrills and spills, penetrating deeper into the culture . . . in the end, what's remarkable is how moving the stories can be, they stick in the memory with two commonalities. Each of the stories seem to arise from the surfers' sense of invincible possibility (for pleasure, passion, movement, escape, the perfect moment, or whatever lies out there); and the surfers indefatigable wanting and seeking eventually leads them a bit too deep on the surfer's continuum, which has at one end pure joy and at the other horror, with absurdity and mockery in the middle. In addition to the events, the scenic parcel on Imagination Island will be fitted out with picnics,  blankets and other trappings of summer.  Chief among these features will be “The Narrows” – a surf wave running along the North border of the sim from the creations of noted Second Life surf creators Heather Goodlife and Sebastian Saramango.  “The Narrows” features perilous off-sim rocks, a shark, a kraken, and free surfboards so everyone can “catch the wave.”  Residents are encouraged to enjoy the summer features of the sim all weekend long.  Imagination Island is a “mature” rated sim.

All Welcome Summer Weekend! Events will take place at the Seanchai Library on Imagination Island in the Community Virtual Library Estate in Second Life and all times listed are SLT.

THURSDAY, May 17th at 7pm: THE LOST COAST - Surfing Stories with Shandon Loring

The beach is a no-man's-land, the coastal zone a dynamic give and take of land and sea, swell and tide. The nomadic peoples indigenous to this fluid land scape belong to the global tribe of surfers. They see the ocean differently than inlanders, differently too than the other fringe dwellers who seldom set foot in saltwater. For surfers the swells, currents, and the curling folds of waves are elements of a natural language. Tonight: tales of truth, fiction, and fantasy - each a glimpse into life on this sweet and ragged edge of beauty.

Stories Presented at the Seanchai Firecircle by Shandon Loring in Voice.

March-April donation

Seanchai Library lends a hand

Throughout March and April, Seanchai Library chose Project Children as our target charity. Now the figures are in, and Chief Librarian Derry McMahon has converted your kind donations into US dollars.

We’re happy to say that thanks to all your help, we were able to send $115 US to Project Children to help them in their goal of giving children in Ireland — Protestant and Catholic — a much-needed break and an extraordinary chance to play together.

WEDNESDAY, May 16th @ 7pm: "Two Old Women: An Alaska Legend"

Based on an Athabaskan Indian legend passed along for many generations from mothers to daughters of the upper Yukon River Valley in Alaska, this is the suspensful, shocking, ultimately inspirational tale of two old women abandoned by their tribe during a brutal winter famine.  In simple but vivid detail, Velma Wallis depicts a landscape and way of life that are at once merciless and starkly beautiful.   Part One of Two, story in voice.

TUESDAY 15 May at 7pm: "The Girl Who Heard Dragons" with Derry and Bear

"The Girl Who Heard Dragons" is the story of Aramina, a teenage girl of Pern who hears dragons - a skill which does not seem likely to help solve her family's problems. They are "holdless," and must constantly roam the land, trying to hide from bandits. Aramina's mother fears losing her daughter completely to the life of a dragonrider, but McCaffrey has another fate in mind for her young heroine. Join us for part two of this tale, read in voice (pt 2 of 2).

MONDAY, May 14th at 7pm: "A Study in Emerald"

Combining the worlds of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and H. P. Lovecraft, Neil Gaiman brings us A Study in Emerald. Originally written for Michael Reaves' anthology Shadows Over Baker Street, Gaiman brings these two universes together like a master chef combines the ingredients of a fine meal. As Gaiman tells us, “Writing’s a lot like cooking. Sometimes the cake won’t rise, no matter what you do, and every now and again the cake tastes better than you ever could have dreamed it would.”

Presented by Corwyn Allen live in voice.

More from "The Last Page."  Thnks to her sister, Caledonia has had a subscription to Smithsonian Magazine for years and years. Part of Cale's Smithsonian ritual was to open the back cover to read "The Last Page": short, amusing features written by contributors to the magazine.
The Magazine took on a new Editor recently and this feature has made way for newer innovations. Tonight Caledonia will feature a selection of these delightful sidebars: always funny, often ironic, and even sometimes poignant.  This week's selections include Patricia McNamee Rosenberg's Reqiuem for a Redhead.

THE FISHERMAN AND HIS SOUL
by Oscar Wilde
A reversal of Andersen's The Little Mermaid - Instead of the usual sea nymph seeking a human soul, Wilde has the fisherman give up his soul to join the mermaid and to enjoy sensual pleasures and her natural love. Ironically, his soul and the institution of the church endeavor to destroy his wholesome love. Nevertheless, the fisherman recognizes that his 'hedonistic' love is more pure than what society ordains as good, and he is reunited with the mermaid by the end of the tale in an act of rebellion against traditional morality.  Story in voice.
