Epic battles, clashes between the underworld and the real world, love, war, and death. Ancient tales brimming with the magic and wonder of the Celtic world. Each tale has been faithfully adapted to be told in 10 minutes or less. Join us tonight for these bite-size epic tales.

WEDNESDAY 27 April at 7pm: Garrison Keillor and Kayden O

Tonight Kayden presents selections from Garrison Keillor’s “Leaving Home”, set in Lake Wobegon. Yes, that Lake Woebegon, where "all the women are strong, all the men are good looking and all the children are above average". Stories in voice.

TUESDAY 26 April at 7pm: "The Stars My Destination" (pt 2) with Bear Silvershade

“He was one hundred and seventy days dying and not yet dead…” — TheStars My Destination, Alfred Bester. Foyle is a cipher, a man with potential but no motivation, suddenly marooned in space. Even this is not enough to galvanize him beyond trying to find air and food on the wreck, but everything changes when another ship deliberately passes him by, stirring him out of hispassivity. Foyle becomes a monomaniacal and sophisticated monster bent upon revenge; no price is too high to pay. This thrilling story will be read in open voice.

MONDAY, April 25th at 6:15pm & 7:00pm "How To Train Your Dragon"

Did you miss the exciting dragon fight last week? Never fear, Caledonia is repeating Part III tonight beginning at 6:15pm, and then will roll right into the conclusion of Cressida Cowell's delightful adventure of one boy's journey of becoming a hero "the hard way."

When we left Hiccup, it looked like the two "Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus" had destroyed each other. But had they? One still survives . . . can Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III save his tribe? Come and find out.

Time allowing, we'll also visit The Hero's Book of Dangerous Dragons, with more adventures from the prolific pen of Cressida Cowell.

WEDNESDAY 20 April at 7pm: Kayden Oconnell and Clarence Darrow

Kayden will share David Rintels' one-man play "Clarence Darrow". The play is based on a truly paradoxical, sophisticated, hedonistic country lawyer named Clarence Seward Darrow (born April 18, 1857, died March 13, 1938). He was the son of the village undertaker and coffin maker. He feared death, which may have lead to his lifelong crusade against capital punishment. No client of his was ever executed during his six decade long career. Reading presented in voice.

WEDNESDAY 13 April at 7pm: Rosslyn Guardian with Vintage Paranormal

Imagine Sherlock Holmes meets the X-Files!Storyteller Rosslyn Guardian offers short stories written in the early 1900's by Englishwoman Dion Fortune. Ms. Fortune was a Kabbalistic Ritualist who, with her group, did esoteric work to combat the occult workings of Hitler during WW II. Meditating through the blitz in London, she later moved to Glastonbury to continue her work.

Although she wrote mostly nonfiction, she did write a few novels, very dated by today's standards, but her real fiction gem was this book of short stories."Secrets of Dr. Taverner"The character of Dr. Taverner is a Holmesian fellow who runs a residential clinic in the English countryside. With a background in esoterics he deals with cases the establishment couldn't touch.

"With Friends Like These..." by Alan Dean Foster (1971) The Federation have been fighting the Yop for millenia and are losing. Their only hope are the mythical "Humans" who destroyed the ancient Veen Empire before becoming trapped behind a force field around "Earth." With technology to slip through the force field, a unauthorized ship lands, hoping that despite 450,000 years of isolation the natives will still be of help in this new war. With luck they'll be friends. Story in voice.

MONDAY. April 11th at 7:00pm: Part II of "How To Train Your Dragon"

Life is just not easy or fair if you are Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. Son of the Chief - so expectations are high; Taking the first step in the the Tribe's Dragon Initiation Program - you come away with is a common garden dragon, and a really small one at that. Great!

This week, Hiccup's wee dragon wakes up and we meet a personality as extreme as Gobber the Belch. Hiccup struggles to train his dragon by the Thor's Day Thursday celebration where the final initiation trials will be held. It's the difference between Tribe and Exile for Hiccup. How will it turn out? Will it turn out at all?

Presented live in Voice at the Seanchai Firecircle, so there's plenty of room for all our scaly friends.

SUNDAY 10 April at Noon: MerTales at Fruit Islands

Join Caledonia and Derry for more tales of the merfolk. We will be at the Underwater Theatre in Citrus Abyss - LMs will be sent with notices that day. WEDNESDAY 6 April at 7pm: "A New Red" poems with Beth Pentewyn

Beth offers selections from "A New Red", a poetic retelling of the tale of "Little Red Riding Hood" by award winning writer Lana Ayers. In this modern Red Riding Hood, an artistic wolf and characters like Baba Yaga to spring to life. It is a meditation on the choices a woman makes in her life, in her relationships, and in her art, this book maps the journey through the trials, wonders, and frustrations of a love affair. Poems read in voice.

TUESDAY 5 April at 7pm: "Babette's Feast" Served up by Derry McMahon

Babette's Feast: A mysterious Frenchwoman prepares a sumptuous feast for a gathering of religious ascetics and, in doing so, introduces them to the true essence of grace. At first they protest the idea of a lavish meal, having been used to avoiding any ocassion of sensual pleasure (even that of good food). They are an unhappy lot, the privations of the years have taken their toll on body and soul.

Although the celebrants do their best to reject the earthly pleasures of the food and drink, Babette's extraordinary gifts as a true connoisseur, so characteristically French, breaks down their distrust and superstitions, elevating them not only physically but spiritually. Old wrongs are forgotten, ancient loves are rekindled, and a mystical redemption of the human spirit settles over the table — thanks to the general elation nurtured by the consumption of so many fine culinary delicacies and spirits. The eucharistic, albeit mundane celebration around the table shadows the "infinite grace… [that] had been allotted to them, and they did not even wonder at the fact, for it had been but the fulfillment of an ever-present hope."

The unabashedly farcical adventures of how a timid protagonist ( Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III) proves himself worthy of the sobriquet "Hope and Heir to the Tribe of the Hairy Hooligans." The protagonist is also given author credit, with Cowell billed as translator "from the Old Norse:

"I was not the sort of boy who could train a dragon with a mere lifting of an eyebrow. I was not a natural at the Heroism business. I had to work at it. This is the story of becoming a Hero the Hard Way."

SATURDAY 2 April at 4pm: Dryad Stories with Derry

Today Derry is off to the Fringe Renn Faire...a fundraiser for RFL...with Dryad stories by Frank Stockton.

Dryads are tree nymphs who live in oak trees. (Derry is the anglicized word for Oak in Gaelic). They are shy, long-lived and usually very tied to their homes.

Today enjoy two stories by Frank Stockton "Old Pipes and the Dryad" and the sequel "The Lost Dryad". LM will be sent that day.
