WEDNESDAY, November 28th at 7pm: EVERYTHING ON A WAFFLE Continues

Faerie Maven-Pralou is back, and continuing Polly Horvath's award-winning adventure.

Orphaned Primrose knows she's not really an orphan.  She's taken up residence with her Uncle Jack, and things are not going entirely bad, yet something is not quite right.
Primrose finds sanctuary at a restaurant called The Girl in the Swing, where everything―including lasagna―is served on a waffle, and where the proprietor, Miss Bowzer, offers a willing ear, as well as sage advice. Through a mixture of eccentric humor and probing philosophy, author Polly Horvath makes Primrose's search for peace and understanding a most memorable one.
Everything on a Waffle is a 2001 Boston Globe - Horn Book Award Honor Book for Fiction and Poetry and a 2002 Newbery Honor Book.  Faerie Maven-Pralou begins the adventure tonight, live in voice.

TUESDAY, November 27th at 7pm: THE QUILTERS ~ Part 2

Caledonia concludes The Quilters: Women and Domestic Art, an Oral History by Patricia Cooper and Norma Bradley Allen - real stories of women stitching their lives into the patterns of their quilts.

“You can’t always change things. Sometimes you don’t have no control over the way things go. Hail ruins the crops, or fire burns you out. And then you’re just given so much to work with in a life and you have to do the best you can with what you’ve got. That’s what piecing is.”
—Mary White, from the Introduction, First published in 1977

TUESDAY, November 27: Urchin Preview Day

Explore a new way to experience The Dickens Project this year : become an urchin.

Charles Dickens, ever a champion of children, wrote stories about those who were poor and unprotected, left in the hands of the manipulative and cruel.

His child characters are often triumphant, finding ways to build lives of purpose and sometimes even happiness in a difficult time.

What was it like to be a child in Victoria's England? Become an urchin and find out!

Urchins in Dickens' London will be available all during this year's Dickens Project programming. But maybe you want a preview ...

If so, join me at the Dickens Project on LEA 7 on Tuesday, November 27, for a preview. I will be on site as much as possible that day to answer questions and show you around./span>

Scheduled tours will happen at 10:00 am, 2:00 pm, and 6:00 pm SLT.

Meet at the Plaza! ( http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/LEA7/128/131/22

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 22nd at 10am: ALICES RESTAURANT MASSACREE

ALICE'S RESTAURANT REVISITED
The song is one of Arlo Guthrie's most prominent works, based on a true incident from his life that began on Thanksgiving Day 1965 with a citation for littering, and ended with the refusal of the U.S. Army to draft him because of his conviction for that crime. The ironic punch line of the story is that, in the words of Guthrie, "I'm sittin' here on the Group W bench 'cause you want to know if I'm moral enough to join the Army - burn women, kids, houses and villages - after bein' a litterbug." The final part of the song is an encouragement for the listeners to sing along, to resist the draft, and to end war.

The "song" is in fact a spoken monologue, presented by Shandon Loring today for your listening pleasure or just to groan at and be Thankful when it's over.

WEDNESDAY, November 21st at 7pm: THE QUILTERS

Selections from The Quilters: Women and Domestic Art, an Oral History by Patricia Cooper and Norma Bradley Allen

And then you’re just given so much to work with in a life and you have to do the best you can with what you’ve got. That’s what piecing is. The materials is passed on to you or is all you can afford to buy . . . that’s just what’s given to you. Your fate. But the way you put them together is your business. You can put them in any order you like.”

TUESDAY, November 13th at 7pm: EVERYTHING ON A WAFFLE Begins

Primrose Squarp simply knows her parents did not perish at sea during a terrible storm, but try convincing the other residents of Coal Harbour on that score. For all practical purposes, at least for the time being, Primrose is an orphan, and there's no great clamoring of prospective adopters. After realizing the impracticality of continuing to pay Miss Perfidy (a mothball-scented elderly lady) an hourly wage to baby-sit her, the town council is able to locate a relative, Uncle Jack, who reluctantly takes Primrose into his care. Primrose does warm up to living with him and in his home, despite the eerie noises resembling a hockey game that haunt her in the night.
But true sanctuary can always be found at a restaurant called The Girl in the Swing, where everything―including lasagna―is served on a waffle, and where the proprietor, Miss Bowzer, offers a willing ear, as well as sage advice. Through a mixture of eccentric humor and probing philosophy, author Polly Horvath makes Primrose's search for peace and understanding a most memorable one.
