WEDNESDAY, January 30th at 7PM: KEEPIN' IT BRIEF - A Tribute

Stories serve so many purposes in our lives: dreaming, expressing, exploring, problem solving. Stories also bring people together in unique and unexpected ways.

Tonight, R. Crap Mariner pays tribute to a friend: a fellow scribe, a brother of the brief pen.  Steve Krodman, (known as "Elisson") passed away on January 11th. Through his blog Lost in the Cheese Aisle and other venues to share his words, he explored the 100w story form and the possibilities in making every word count.

TUESDAY, January 29th at 7pm: THE TIME KEEPER Continues

Kayden and Caledonia present Mitch Albom's tale of time

"Living without love was something Dor knew more about than any soul on Earth.  The more Sarah spoke of loneliness, the clearer it became why he was there."

Dor has brought together Victor Delamonte, who wants more time, and Sarah Lemon, who wants too little.  He must guide their sight beyond their immediate desires, to the impact such choices would have on the future - their futures, and the futures of those around them.  A glimpse into possible futures, this week.

Kayden and Caledonia continue Mitch Albom's modern fable, live in voice.

SUNDAY, January 27th @ 1:30pm: TEA TIME with Templar ~ The Saint

Simon Templar is a Robin Hood-like criminal known as The Saint – plausibly from his initials, but the exact reason for his nickname is unknown (although the reader is told that he was given it at the age of nineteen). Templar has aliases, often using the initials S.T. such as "Sebastian Tombs" or "Sugarman Treacle". Blessed with boyish humour, he makes humorous and off-putting remarks and leaves a "calling card" at his "crimes," a stick figure of a man with a halo over his head. This is used as the logo of the books, the movies, and the 1960s TV series. He is described as "a buccaneer in the suits of Savile Row, amused, cool, debonair, with hell-for-leather blue eyes and a saintly smile."

The Saint is featured in a series of books by Leslie Charteris published between 1928 and 1963. After
that date, other authors collaborated with Charteris on books until 1983.

TODAY: Part 1 of The Man Who Was Clever with David Abbot, Corwyn Allen, Kayden Oconnell, and Caledonia Skytower, live in voice in the Library's Fireside Room (Downstairs).

WEDNESDAY, January 23rd at 7PM: THE JENNIFER MORGUE Continues

THE JENNIFER MORGUE offers a wonderful pastiche on both the world of James Bond and a
wonderful mimicking of Ian Fleming’s style of writing, Stross produces a novel that also evokes Lovecraftian overtones that is delightfully entertaining to read.

In true Bond style, Bob is (reluctantly) partnered with an American agent – in this case a stunningly beautiful woman who also just happens to be a soul-sucking succubus from another dimension. Which, being the case, marks Bob’s mission somewhat differently to those of Bond: not only must he stop the bad guys and come through this at best shaken, he must totally avoid being stirred towards getting the girl…

Corwyn Allen continues selections from the adventures of Bob Howard, geekish demonology hacker extraordinaire, from Charles Stross' Laundry Files series, live in voice.

TUESDAY, January 22nd at 7pm: THE TIME KEEPER Continues

"You marked the minutes, but did you use them wisely? To be still? To cherish? To be grateful? To lift and be lifted? . . . find two souls on earth, one who wants too much time and one who wants too little. Teach them what you have learned."

Dor, the inventor of time, has been transported to our current time in search of two voices - one young female, and one older male. He must figure out how their lives are destined to intertwine and teach them the hardest lesson of all, the one that he himself has just begun to understand: the true value of time.

Kayden and Caledonia continue Mitch Albom's modern fable, live in voice.

THURSDAY January 3rd at 7pm: THE ICE DRAGON

"Winter Is Coming"
THE ICE DRAGON

In George R.R. Martin's world of A Song of Ice and Fire the ice dragon was a creature of legend and fear, for no man had ever tamed one. When it flew overhead, it left in its wake desolate cold and frozen land. But Adara was not afraid. For Adara was a winter child, born during the worst freeze that anyone, even the Old Ones, could remember.

Adara could not remember the first time she had seen the ice dragon. It seemed that it had always been in her life, glimpsed from afar as she played in the frigid snow long after the other children had fled the cold. In her fourth year she touched it, and in her fifth year she rode upon its broad, chilled back for the first time. Then, in her seventh year, on a calm summer day, fiery dragons from the North swooped down upon the peaceful farm that was Adara's home. And only a winter child—and the ice dragon who loved her—could save her world from utter destruction.

WHAT'S UP? This Week at Seanchai Libraries

First of all - Happy New Year!

It was a wild and magical December with this year's Dickens Project. What with the timing of the holiday and the closing of Dickens, we are making this a light week.  Don't panic!  We'll be back in full swing next week with several new series and plenty of stories to share.

This week there will only be one session, Thursday, January 3rd at 7pm with Shandon
THE ICE DRAGON by George R.R. Martin

And be sure and take some time to visit the plein-air exhibition of artist Luis Royo's illustrations for the novella, just up the stairs from the Library on the Gallery front lawn.
