When a lonely woman receives the only offer of marriage she's ever had, she commits to her new husband totally. In her love, she is blind to the fact that the poor fisherman she has tied herself to is a proud, cruel and indifferent man.

SUNDAY, April 26th at 1:30pm - TEA TIME at Baker Street!

The Baker Street Crew are back with another adventure from the first Holmesian collection "The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes.  TODAY: "The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor"

The story entails the disappearance of Hatty, Lord St. Simon's bride on the day of their marriage. She participates in the wedding, but disappears from the reception.
The events of the wedding day are most perplexing to Lord St. Simon as it seemed to him that his bride, Miss Hatty Doran of San Francisco, was full of enthusiasm about their impending marriage.

St. Simon tells Holmes that he noticed a change in the young lady's mood just after the wedding ceremony. She was uncharacteristically sharp with him. The only thing out of the ordinary at the church where the wedding took place was Hatty's little accident: she dropped her wedding bouquet and a gentleman in the front pew picked it up and handed it back to her.

There are many questions that Holmes must sift through. Who was that woman trying to get in to the wedding breakfast? Who was that man in the front pew? Who was that man seen going into Hyde Park with Hatty? Why were Hatty's wedding dress and ring found washed up on the shore of the Serpentine? What had become of her?
Corwyn Allen, John Morland, and Caledonia Skytower live in voice.

SATURDAY April 18th at 12pm in Kitely: IRISH GODS & HEROES

IRISH GODS AND HEROES
Balor and Gubbaun
'In the day of long ago and the times that have disappeared for ever...'  The very words set the the imagination racing, heralding a strange and wonderful tale from the dawn of Ireland's past, when the old gods held sway and the lad was peopled by high kings and heroes.

Balor of the evil eye was the god of death whose one eye was said to be so malevolent that it could destroy anyone upon whom he gazed. Tonight we recount the story of when Balor met the Irish hero Gubbaun Saor, "the wondersmith".

Also:

Macha of the Gold Hair

Among the goddesses of Irish mythology there are few more terrible than Macha, who is said to personify battle and slaughter. She is one of the goddesses of war and is believed to hover over warriors, inspiring them with battle madness and urging them to cut off the heads of fallen enemies. There are several versions of Mocha's death, including one in which she was slain by Balor of the Evil Eye, but this version tonight, by Dermot O'Byrne, may be rather closer to the truth.

AND DON'T FORGET . . . at 9PM ~ SEANCHAI LATE NIGHT
Late Night Science Fiction with a contemporary twist.

TWO TASTY TREATS on WEDNESDAY!

First, a whole new session and a whole new book shared by two "women of the word" . . .

@6AM ~ CONFESSIONS OF A FAILED SOUTHERN LADY
Trolly Trollop & Freda Frostbite share Florence King's classic memoir of her upbringing in an eccentric Southern family, told with all the uproarious wit and gusto that has made her one of the most admired writers in the country. Florence may have been a disappointment to her Granny, whose dream of rearing a Perfect Southern Lady would never be quite fulfilled. But after all, as Florence reminds us, "no matter which sex I went to bed with, I never smoked on the street."

@ 7PM ~ More from CHRISTIE'S DETECTIVES

Caledonia shares more from the venerable Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie tonight - crime novelist, short story writer, and playwright. She is best known for the 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections she wrote under her own name, most of which revolve around the investigations a familiar canon of five detective characters of her creation. She also wrote the world's longest-running play, The Mousetrap.

THIS WEEK: More from Miss Jane Marple - "The Perfect Maid" & "Sanctuary"

All stories live in voice, all times SLT.

TUESDAY, April 14th at 7pm: A WALK IN THE WOODS Concludes

http://www.appalachiantrail.org
The final chapters in Bill Bryson's great adventure on the Appalachian trail.

It's trail's end very soon, and Bryson reconnects with his buddy Katz, to take the fateful, final steps on this epic journey.

The Appalachian Trail trail stretches from Georgia to Maine and covers some of the most breathtaking terrain in America–majestic mountains, silent forests, sparking lakes. If you’re going to take a hike, it’s probably the place to go. And Bill Bryson is surely the most entertaining guide you’ll find. He introduces us to the history and ecology of the trail and to some of the other hardy (or just foolhardy) folks he meets along the way–and a couple of bears. Already a classic, "A Walk in the Woods" will make you long for the great outdoors (or at least a comfortable chair to sit and read in).

Kayden Oconnell, live in voice.

MONDAY, April 13th at 7PM: JACK OF SHADOWS

“Jack of Shadows”
by Roger Zelazny
  • ISBN-13: 978-0451075871

Earth is divided.  The West Pole is dark, full of magic.  The East Pole is perpetual daylight, the world of technology.  Jack derives magic not from a "place of power" but from shadows, the interface between light and dark.

Gyro Muggins, Live in voice.

SUNDAY, April 12th at 1:30pm: TEA TIME with Kipling

Caledonia Skytower and John Morland share adventures from "Just So Stories" - a collection of highly fantasized origin stories, written by the British author Rudyard Kipling, featuring the unique qualities of different animals. They are among Kipling's best known works, Live in Voice.

Today: The Whale, Rhinoceros, Camel, Armadillo and more!

"Hear and attend and listen; for this befell and behappened and became and was: O my Best Beloved, when the tame animals were wild.”
