The story is set circa 1790 in the Dutch settlement of Tarry Town, in a secluded glen called Sleepy Hollow. It tells of Ichabod Crane, a sycophantic, lean, lanky, and extremely superstitious schoolmaster from Connecticut, who competes with Abraham "Brom Bones" Van Brunt, the town rowdy, for the hand of 18-year-old Katrina Van Tassel, the daughter and sole child of a wealthy farmer. As Crane leaves a party he attended at the Van Tassel home on an autumn night, he is pursued by the Headless Horseman, who is supposedly the ghost of a Hessian trooper who had his head shot off by a stray cannonball during "some nameless battle" of the American Revolutionary War, and who "rides forth to the scene of battle in nightly quest of his head". Join us as Elder Priestman and Derry McMahon read this favorite fall tale aloud.

Thursday October 7th at 7pm: GREAT IRISH STORIES OF THE SUPERNATURAL

Great Irish Stories of the Supernatural

They are the ruling classes of the Irish folktale, the shadows and shades of its landscapes. They are the banshees, ghosts, and faeries. They are the witches, demons, and familiars that have stirred the soul and curdled the blood of avid Irish listeners for thousands of years. Masterful tales of bedevilment and enchantment ranging from remote island to country estate and city apartment. The darkest corners of the night begin to beckon and the spirits that inhabit them come out to play.

WEDNESDAY 6 October @ 7pm: "The Gateway of the Monster" with Bear Silvershad

In the first story of the series, "The Gateway of the Monster,” Carnacki is summoned to investigate a noisy spirit that tears off the bed clothes and slams the door of the Grey Room — the site of a grisly murder generations ago in an ancient family mansion. However, the manifestation is far more powerful than he expects and he spends a miserable, terrified night in his electric pentacle while a horrible apparition in the form of a human hand pounds at his defenses.

Thomas Carnacki is a supernatural detective, the protagonist of a series of six short stories written between 1910 and 1912 by English fantasy writer William Hope Hodgson, later published as a collection in “Carnacki the Ghost Finder,” published in 1913. Story in voice.

DRACULA IS COMING - HE LIVES!

Two years ago Dracula was the very first multi-voiced story event that we presented and it was instantly popular, filling the library with enthusiastic guests.  We've decided it was so much fun that we are going to do it again.  Voices from the original production will return, including Shandon Loring as the title character.  There will also be some new voices including Gina Pralou and Bear Silvershade.

This presentation of Dracula was adapted from the novel by Seattle's Larry Albert for a radio play broadcast, and Mr. Albert generously gave permission for the Library staff to adapt it for presentation in Second Life.

There will be two performances at the Library on Info Island: Friday, October 22nd and Tuesday, October 26th - both at 7pm SLT.  There will be two additional presentations: The Fruit Islands Estate on Saturday, October 23rd at Noon SLT, and at the Evolution Kingdom (A Bloodlines RP Region) Saturday, October 30th at 7pm SLT.  All performances are open to the public.  Admission is free and donations are accepted  to benefit War Child North America.

Look for posters in world and info notecards.  Specific landmarks and schedule updates will be forthcoming.
