ALL of today's sessions are in The Glen

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Nowhereville/197/131/21

@NOON: RUSSELL EPONYM, Live in The Glen!
Join us for Russell's popular weekly performance in our beautiful Glen for an hour of 100% live and unplugged acoustic music and spoken word.  Russell will be presenting original and traditional songs, instrumental pieces and covers, together with some selected poems. Folk Baroque and Beyond.

@1:30PM: REMEMBERING KTADHN

We lost a friend on August 18th - one who touched many lives.  For those who wanted to, but were not able to attend the community memorial on Saturday, or the remembrance last night at Seanchai, a moment in The Glen to honor Ktadhn Vesuvino.

@7PM: THE LAST CUENTISTA - Concludes

There lived a girl named Petra Peña, who wanted nothing more than to be a storyteller, like her abuelita.

But Petra’s world is ending. Earth has been destroyed by a comet, and only a few hundred scientists and their children – among them Petra and her family – have been chosen to journey to a new planet. They are the ones who must carry on the human race.

Hundreds of years later, Petra wakes to this new planet – and the discovery that she is the only person who remembers Earth. A sinister Collective has taken over the ship during its journey, bent on erasing the sins of humanity’s past. They have systematically purged the memories of all aboard – or purged them altogether.

Petra alone now carries the stories of our past, and with them, any hope for our future. Can she make them live again?

Caledonia Skytower read Donna Barba Higuera’s 2021 winner of the  Newbery Medal and Pura Belpré Award.  Presented live on stream.

MONDAY, July 25th at 7pm: More from Ray Bradbury's DANDELION WINE

Ktadhn Vesuvino presents more adventures into summer from this Bradbury classic.

TONIGHT's stories: Grandma, Fireflies, Fortune Teller, and Cicadas.

The summer of '28 was a vintage season for a growing boy. A summer of green apple trees, mowed lawns, and new sneakers. Of half-burnt firecrackers, of gathering dandelions, of Grandma's belly-busting dinner. It was a summer of sorrows and marvels and gold-fuzzed bees. A magical, timeless summer in the life of a twelve-year-old boy named Douglas Spaulding—remembered forever by the incomparable Ray Bradbury.

Presented LIVE at the firecircle.

TUESDAY, January 11th at 7pm: CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

Presented live on stream.

THURSDAY, December 16th at 7pm: THE SEASON In Music & Poetry

"While to the cheerful hearth and social board

Content and ease repair, the sons of want

Receive from niggard fate their pittance scant;

And where some shed bleak covert may afford,

Wan poverty, amidst her meagre host

Casts round her haggard eyes, and shivers at the frost."

~ from "Winter" by Anne Hunter

Ktadhn Vesuvino and Caledonia Skytower team up once more to share and hour of words and music of the season: some secular, some sacred.  Join us at the Seanchai Winter Holiday Skating Pond to share this time in skating, dancing, or just listening.

Presented live on stream and in SL Voice.

SEANCHAI LATE NIGHT with Finn Zeddmore follows at 9pm in the Main Library

WEDNESDAY, September 22nd at 7pm: AUTUMN in Music & Poetry

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,

   Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;

Conspiring with him how to load and bless

   With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;

To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,

   And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;

To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells

With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,

And still more, later flowers for the bees,

Until they think warm days will never cease,

For summer has o'er-brimm'd their clammy cells . . .

~ from "To Autumn" by John Keats

Join Caledonia Skytower and Ktadhn Vesuvino in The Glen for an hour of Autumn Music & Poetry (you can even dance too!)

~ at 7pm: STAYING OPEN with Ktadhn Vesuvino
KT shares his journey in poetry and images from sculpture, through rain and lockdowns, to a beach re-opening:" We made people happy. It felt like an airy bubble in the spreading darkness. And then the beach was closed. The governmental world pressed in ever closer, and I felt it crowding out the flexibility that life demands."

Both sessions, live on Stream.
Description:

TUESDAY, March 31st at 7pm: DREAMS IN THE SAND with Ktadhn Vesuvino

The best way to see a sand sculpture is to be on the beach, watching as the sand is piled and carved. Hear the breaking waves, feel the spray on your face, taste the salt on your lips, feel the sand under your bare feet. For most people, opportunity is infrequent.

This presentation brings the beach to SL. It is woven from three main components, each of which has fascinated Kt for many years. Photography came first, after he inherited a camera and became interested in visual composition. Writing started as something done for himself and grew beyond that limitation. Sand sculpture was an engineering experiment and, through years, became more wide-ranging because he enjoyed doing it.

Time is the sliding window in which he has built this program. It starts in the fall of 2018 and runs through early March 2020. Some of the sculptures sparked their own poems. Other poems came from less immediate roots, as in between sculptures he thinks about what they're made from and how he make them. There's a shared common core of imagery, word-images, light-images, sand-images. All are necessary.

Presented live on Stream.

WEDNESDAY, February 26th at 7pm: A MATTER OF DREAMS

Ktadhn Vesuvino takes us on another journey from the works of Sharon Lee and Steve Miller with the short story A MATTER OF DREAMS.

The Liaden Universe beckons with this story featuring two young people and a dilapidated space ship, trying any way they can to maintain themselves.

Kt presents live on stream, with a bit of musical prelude, of course.

SATURDAY, February 15th at 7pm: LOVE in Music & Poetry

Caledonia Skytower and Ktahdn Vesuvino present "Love in words and music." It's a program they developed last year. Since then it has been extended, rebuilt, and re-imagined.

It's a braided tapestry of spoken words (Cale) and music (Ktahdn), alternating, weaving, wandering within the theme. Love is a large idea with many facets - it's not all hearts and flowers (only sometimes). The 2020 Edition of "The Love Show" reinforces and reflects the fascinating depths beneath love's surface.

I BRING you with reverent hands
The books of my numberless dreams,
White woman that passion has worn
As the tide wears the dove-grey sands,
And with heart more old than the horn
That is brimmed from the pale fire of time:
White woman with numberless dreams,
I bring you my passionate rhyme.

~ A Poet to His Beloved

by William Butler Yeats
Live on Stream, and in Voice.

TUESDAY, February 11th at 7pm: THIS HOUSE with Ktahdn Vesuvino

Ktadhn Vesuvino takes us on another journey to the Liaden Universe of Sharon Lee and Steve Miller with the short story THIS HOUSE.

A house with a big garden?  Sounds pretty normal. Houses built on older houses - not that uncommon, is it? Yet, what could possibly happen?

Kt presents live on stream, with a bit of musical prelude, of course.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 21ST at 7PM: THE SPACE AT TINSORI LIGHT - More from the Liaden Universe ®

Ktadhn Vesuvino reads a short story by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller, set in their Liaden Universe®.
Former Scout Jen Sin yos’Phelium, recalled by Korval to serve the Clan, is ordered to discretely deliver a packet to Clan Sinan on Delium. It sounded easy enough, other than the fact that Clan Sinan was having trouble with their allies – a situation that puts Jen on edge and determined not to see the delivery leave him getting separated from his ability to remain alive.
Unfortunately, things do not go well, and Jens is forced to make an emergency star jump, his ship under threat. He finds himself arriving near the deserted Tinsori Light station. With his ship damaged and rescue dependent on his survival, Jens must board the station. In doing so, he discovers Old Tech, a reminder of the Legacy Systems left over from previous wars. Nor is that all, as he discovers the station might be haunted… (Summary courtesy of Inara Pey)
Ktadhn Vesuvino live on stream.

TUESDAY, January 14th at 7pm: CUTTING CORNERS with Ktadhn

Ktadhn Vesuvino reads a short story by Sharon lee and Steve Miller, set in their Liaden Universe®.

Therny Chirs, cargo master and  – certification allowing – a Third Class pilot – does not have a particularly happy lot. Signed aboard the cargo hauler Fringe Runner, operated by the skinflint Captain Jad, Chirs finds himself becoming a jack of all trades – cargo master, engineer and general fixer, with or without certification, on a ship that is so far past recognized periods of refit / overhaul, its name might well be “cutting corners” – an act generally frowned upon when it comes to operating in the cold and impersonal realm of space.
However, the current issue on the Fringe Runner isn’t one to be solved easily. It really requires a certified engineer – or at least time spent shunting stuff around from outside, which itself would require a dock pilot. Neither option is liable to by something Jad will pay for. Fortunately, Chirs has his Third Class pilot’s rating; only it’s dated, and the local Guild require he take a re-certification test. But is it really just a test, or is something else going on? (Summary courtesy of Inara Pey)
Ktadhn Vesuvino live on stream.

FRIDAY, December 27th at 6pm: TEA DANCE Take 2 at The Dickens Project

6-8pm slt ~ TEA DANCE AT THE OPERA HOUSE

A dance and ANOTHER chance for role play!
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/The%20Dickens%20Project/105/157/501

The Setting: The Lady Agatha is hosting a *second* Tea Dance in (possibly vain) attempt to rescue her niece's reputation after the debacle of the last dance.

Her niece, the Lady Helen, a younger daughter of the Earl of Marshwold, barely showed up at the last dance and was *not* accompanied her fiancé, the Hon. Charles Smithington-Smythe, a wealthy young gentleman of the ton.

And the rumours! Gossips (Lady Agatha can call them nothing else!) are saying Smithington-Smythe is not who he says he is. Even worse, that he has been seen paying his attentions to other ladies, if such they be!

To provide a distraction, Lady Agatha has invited servants, staff, and others of the lower orders to stop by and receive their Boxing Day gifts.

Gossip will be happening! Possibly hi-jinx! Come and add your share!

Music by DJ Ktadhn Vesuvino, and Hosted by Aoife Lorefield. Choose your character as you prefer or contact Aoife to ask for suggestions!

Victorian dress is requested for this event. If you need some, there are free outfits available at the shops on Dickens Square.

TUESDAY, September 17th at 7pm: PEBBLES LIKE POEMS, LIKE JAZZ

Cale: "Have we done 'Pebbles' at Seanchai?"
Kt: "No. Wanna try an experiment?"
Cale: "Let's do it!"

They are beautiful little things, scattered along the beach. How to see inside a mountain? Look at a pebble. They come in many colors, shapes, sizes, textures. I started picking them up for a friend who is a painter, then for myself. I took close-up photographs of them to show detail. The macro lens sees better than my aging eyes.

The first new poem I wrote after a 20-year hiatus was "A Pebble." Pebbles have since been a part of many other poems. They are jazz notes on the beach, improvised by tide and current, each 12-hour peak a new arrangement. They inspire me: enduring beauty.
--Ktahdn Vesuvino  2019 September 15

"Pebbles like Poems like Jazz"
Original poems in a jazz milieu, with large-format slides as visual accompaniment (musical introduction starting about 20 minutes before) live on stream in The Glen.
