One of the most fun activities at Dickens is the skating pond, complete with five different skate paths and a dance caller. Long time Dickens friend Dano Bookmite plays two hours of music to glide, trip, and collide to, pondside.

"When Scrooge awoke it was so dark, that, looking out of bed, he could scarcely distinguish the transparent window from the opaque walls of his chamber. He was endeavouring to pierce the darkness with his ferret eyes, when the chimes of a neighbouring church struck the four quarters. So he listened for the hour."

Carol Week continues and the Story Tours begin! Today we begin at the beginning, with Stave One:

"Marley was dead, to begin with. There is no doubt whatever about that. The register of his burial was signed by the clergyman, the clerk, the undertaker, and the chief mourner. Scrooge signed it. And Scrooge's name was good upon 'Change for anything he chose to put his hand to. Old Marley was as dead as a door-nail."

SUNDAY, December 17th at The Dickens Project: "A Christmas Carol" - The Big Read


 It's time again for the annual Big Read of Charles Dickens' 1843 culture changing novella A Christmas Carol.

"I have endeavoured in this Ghostly little book to raise the Ghost of an Idea which shall not put my readers out of humour with themselves, with each other, with the season, or with me. May it haunt their house pleasantly, and no one wish to lay it."

So begins Charles Dickens immortal Christmas ghost story, and also our Carol Week at The Dickens Project. The Big Read begins today - Sunday, December 17th - at Noon slt.  A team of readers including Corwyn Allen, Aoife Lorefield, Caledonia Skytower, Gloriana Maertens, and Faerie Maven-Pralou will begin at the beginning, and when they get tot he end they'll stop.  Everything from "Marley was dead..." to "God bless us, everyone."

Join us in the Dickens Project Opera House for any or all of the reading. Duration approximately 3:15 minutes (-ish).

Going to miss the Carol Today? No problem. Join the daily Story Tours, one Stave (or chapter) at a time Monday through Thursday. The tours combine a live presentation of the story with visits to the key locations across The Dickens Project that reflect specific parts of Scrooge's ghost-lead adventure.  All tours will take place twice daily at 1pm & 7pm slt.

Has it only been a week that this year's Dickens Project has been open? So much has happened! And we are about to transition into another phase of this year's event schedule: Carol Week!

@ 7-9pm - ECLIPSE CLUB & RESORT concludes their week-long residency Saturday night, December 16th:  Santa's Helpers with DJ Iniry at The Opera House

The HELP TINY TIM! hunt is underway.  This search-and-count style hunt invites you to “Help Tiny Tim!” who has left his crutch somewhere, everywhere across the two Dickens regions. Information on “Help Tiny Tim!” is available at the Welcome area.

CAROL WEEK begins Sunday, December 17th at Noon with THE BIG READ of A Christmas Carol. Then come the daily Story Tours, one Stave (or chapter) at a time Monday through Thursday.
