We are pleased to celebrate this year's Open Art Show featured artists - twelve of the best and brightest SL artists, many of whom chose to create their images at The Dickens Project.

DJ Caledonia Skytower will be playing and hour of Christmas Jazz.

STORY TOURS: Stave Three: The Second of Three Spirits

Continuing today -  Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" will be read in a live walking tour format. Read live on Stream, come enjoy this singular experience, only at The Dickens Project.

One of the most fun activities at Dickens is the skating pond, complete with five different skate paths and a dance caller. Long time Dickens friend Dano Bookmite plays two hours of music to glide, trip, and collide to, pondside.

SATURDAY, December 30th at The Dickens Project - A Busy Day!

 

ANGELICUS BOY CHOIR @ 11am slt/pacific. The Dickens Project is pleased to welcome the Angelicus Boy Choir to the 2023 Edition with a unique hour of mischief, mayhem, and mostly music.

SPECIAL PREVIEW PERFORMANCE of "OLIVER" Presented by Virtuoso Performing Arts @ 1pm slt/pacific. "Among other public buildings in a certain town, which for many reasons it will be prudent to refrain from mentioning, and to which I will assign no fictitious name, there is one anciently common to most towns, great or small: to wit, a workhouse; and in this workhouse was born a boy who was named, by the proprietor, Mr Bumble, as Oliver Twist" ... and so his story begins.

@ NOON: MUSIC at the Opera House
DJ Dano Bookmite presents 105 minutes of music and dancing in the opulent Dickens project Opera House.

@2pm: THE STRANGE CASE OF DR. JEKYLL & MR HYDE
Fantasy Faire Radio and Seanchai Library present an encore performance of their October co-production, featuring Da5id Abbot, Corwyn Allen, Zander Greene, Elrik Merlin, Kayden Oconnell, VT Torvalar, and Caledonia Skytower.

"Wait a darn minute!  That's not Dickens!"  No it's not.  Robert Louis Stevenson was a good 40 years Dickens' junior, and lived 20 years beyond.  Yet among other things, they have this one thing in common: despite all the lengthy and popular works of fiction that both men authored, the one that was their best seller, the one known all around the world, the one that has embedded itself into western culture, was not one of the big works.  The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (published in 1886 at 27,622 words) was Stevenson's big hit!  Not unlike how A Christmas Carol (published n 1843 at 28,944 words) was Dickens'.

Join us for a Special Holiday Weekend Event ...

@ 1:30pm: TEA TIME on The African Queen
Corwyn, Kayden, and Cale live in voice in Ceiliúradh Glen on Holly Kai as they present the Lux Radio Theater script of The African Queen, based on C.S. Forrester's novel and the 1951 motion picture. 

The story opens in August/September 1914. Rose Sayer, a 33-year-old Englishwoman, is the companion and housekeeper of her brother Samuel, an Anglican missionary in German-colonized Tanganyika (present-day Tanzania). World War I has recently begun, and the German military commander of the area has conscripted all the natives; the village is deserted, and only Rose and her dying brother remain. Samuel dies during the night and Rose is alone. That day, another man arrives at the village: this is a Cockney named Allnutt, who is the mechanic and skipper of the African Queen, a steam-powered launch, owned by a Belgian mining corporation, that plies the upper reaches of the Ulanga River. Allnutt's two-man crew has deserted him at the rumors of war and conscription. Allnutt buries Samuel Sayer and takes Rose back to the African Queen, where they consider what they should do.

DJ Dano Bookmite spins tunes from 1951-53, and some special selections with a jungle beat.  Put on your dancing shoes (or take them off!) in Ceiliúradh Glen for a wild time, and some great fun.

SATURDAY, December 17th at 1pm: FEZZIWIG'S BALL

Come and join us at the Christmas Past Dock for Fezziwig's Ball, featuring DJ Dano Bookmite!

But the great effect of the evening came after the Roast and Boiled, when the fiddler (an artful dog, mind! The sort of man who knew his business better than you or I could have told it him!) struck up 'Sir Roger de Coverley.' Then old Fezziwig stood

out to dance with Mrs. Fezziwig. Top couple, too; with a good stiff piece of work cut out for them; three or four and twenty pair of partners; people who were not to be trifled with; people who would dance, and had no notion of walking.

Period dress is encouraged but not required. Just come along and dance like its 1843, or earlier!
