A variety of characters out of mostly 19th C literature come together in a battle to "Open" or "Close . . . what? We don't know yet, but through the interactions and observations of their various animal familiars, we learn that the fate of humanity is in the balance.

The Philadelphia Story is a 1940 American romantic comedy film
directed by George Cukor, starring Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, James
Stewart, and Ruth Hussey. Based on the 1939 Broadway play of the same name by
Philip Barry, the film is about a socialite whose wedding plans are complicated
by the simultaneous arrival of her ex-husband and a tabloid magazine journalist.
The socialite character of the play—performed by Hepburn in the film—was
inspired by Helen Hope Montgomery Scott (1904–1995), a
Nominated for six Academy Awards, the film won two: James
Stewart for Best Actor, and Donald Ogden Stewart for Best Adapted Screenplay.
MGM remade the film in 1956 as a musical, retitled High Society, starring Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, and Frank Sinatra.

TODAY: "All About Eve"
All About Eve is a 1950 American drama film written and directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, and produced by Darryl F. Zanuck. It was based on the 1946 short story "The Wisdom of Eve" by Mary Orr, although screen credit was not given for this.
The film stars Bette Davis as Margo Channing, a highly regarded but aging Broadway star. Anne Baxter plays Eve Harrington, an ambitious young fan who maneuvers herself into Channing's life, ultimately threatening Channing's career and her personal relationships. The film co-stars George Sanders, Celeste Holm, and features Gary Merrill, Hugh Marlowe, Thelma Ritter, Marilyn Monroe in one of her earliest roles, Gregory Ratoff, Barbara Bates and Walter Hampden.
Praised by critics at the time of its release, All About Eve received a record 14 Academy Award nominations and won six, including Best Picture. All About Eve is the only film in Oscar history to receive four female acting nominations (Davis and Baxter as Best Actress, Holm and Ritter as Best Supporting Actress). Widely considered to be one of the greatest films of all time, All About Eve was one of the first 50 films selected for preservation in the United States Library of Congress' National Film Registry, deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". TODAY: "The African Queen."
The African Queen is a 1935 novel written by English author C. S. Forester. The novel was made into a film in 1951: The African Queen, starring Humphrey Bogart as Charlie Allnutt and Katharine Hepburn as Rose Sayer. Allnutt is changed to a Canadian in the film to explain Bogart's accent. The church is changed to Methodist from Anglican - though the paper which Allnut delivers to the missionaries in the first scene records the elevation of a college friend of the missionaries to being a bishop, which makes no sense given that the Methodist Church in England had (and has) no bishops.

Lyman Frank Baum (May 15th, 1856 – May 6th, 1919) was an American author best known for his children’s books, particularly The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its sequels (14 novels in all). His prolific output included 55 novels, 83 short stories, over 200 poems and at least 42 scripts.
Baum sought to create a uniquely American mythology separate from any European roots. In typically Yankee fashion, he accomplished this by creating a melting pot of story archetypes, mixed and brewed into a somewhat satirical, sometimes glib, very tongue-in-cheek concoction that still manages a certain quaintness.
