Morgan Carey
THE CURSE OF THE CORPSE BRIDE
Dia de los Muertos Myths & Legends by Susan Colleen Browne

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Myths and legends...
Halloween is just around the corner, and 5th grader Morgan chooses the coolest costume ever—a dead bride. Preparing for a fun night of trick-or-treating with her best friend Claire, she definitely did not expect a trip to the costume store to set off a series of strange encounters… Like the snarky, mysterious clerk at the store, a very curious bridal veil, and a weird fortune-telling machine that actually works…when it’s not plugged in!

But Halloween quickly takes a spooky turn: a Day of the Dead curse, an old book of magical spells, and a dark and deserted cemetery forces Morgan, with Claire’s help, to confront the powerful magic of Dia de los Muertos...Or is Morgan doomed to be cursed by the Corpse Bride forever? A family-friendly Halloween adventure - humor, drama and just the right touch of scariness!

THURSDAY September 8th at 7pm: Monsters & Myth - THE NEMEAN LION pt2

"Only one little girl can prevent the darkness from engulfing the world"
THE NEMEAN LION pt2

The world’s fascination with monsters harks back to the dawn of civilization – and even to prehistoric times – when mankind first sought to explain the magical and capricious forces of nature.

Civilized as the ancients were, the stories they told were filled with horrifying creatures. They called them monsters, and there was nothing civil about them. From Anteus, the bloodthirsty cannibal giant, to Hecate, the beautiful, ambitious tormentor of the dead, to the ogre Fafnir, whose guests for dinner become his dinner, the monsters of mythology embody the dark side of human nature. Their battles with Ulysses, Jason, and the other heroes and heroines of legend represent the ongoing contest between all that is worst, all that is best, and all that stands in between.

Tonight we feature the Nemean Lion, a murderous beast who terrorizes the people of Nemea with his ivory-dagger teeth, brass talons, and impenetrable armor hide. But Nemea is merely a practice ground for the lion; his true task is to serve Zeus, King of the gods, who needs a special monster to destroy the latest threat to his rule: a sickly, undersized child destined, the god-king has warned, to shake his entire kingdom.

Unaware of heroic fate, the tine Palaemona falls in love with Melampus, the healer, who can revive the dead and save them from an eternity in Tartarus under Hades’ brutal reign. But the healer’s betrayal and Palaemona’s yearning for his love soon lead her to the grotesque Bullman, who employs bulls to savagely tear his victims in half, shredding their skin and bones, spilling their blood like fertilizer across his furrowed land. The Bullman quickly prepares Palaemona for a similar end – one that would leave this ancient time desperately short of heroes.

Caught between a world she so much wants to love and a world she is terribly unsure of, a young girl struggles to find the answers that lie just beyond her reach. Surrounded by treacherous gods, enormous killer bees, and leather-winged demons, she must face one of the most frightening creatures to ever walk the land: the Nemean Lion. Standing alone, this brave young girl is the only one who can prevent the darkness from engulfing an already fragile world.

THURSDAY July 15th at 7pm: THE DRAGON OF ANGUS OG

"There lived a dragon.."
THE DRAGON OF ANGUS OG
-- Special 90 minute presentation --

It happened long ago in the lowlands of Scotland in the days when castles were made of wood;
this particular Castle of Tundergarth stood on a hill abovefield.s and meadows. . . .

There ran a wide river called the Water of Milk but it was not as mild as it sounds
because in the biggest of its pools, below a deep dark cave,
there lived a dragon. . . .

THURSDAY May 13th at 7pm: Monsters of Mythology - ANTEUS!

"The gods are watching
Monsters of Mythology - ANTEUS!
part 2 of 2

Anteus is the monster antihero of tonight’s story. He is the towering, bloodthirsty son of Mother Earth and the Serpent of Chaos, a cannibal giant made happy only by the cries of human suffering. He is a hated but invincible king - until he encounters Hercules.
Their battle is arranged by Hera, Queen of the Gods. In a jealous rage, she has conspired to tilt the outcome in the giant's favor. Anteus has been given a magical power, so that if he is knocked to earth he will rise up stronger than before. Hercules is then made to vow that he will fight unarmed. Only as tall as Anteus's knee, the Theban hero appears doomed.
But other gods are watching . . .
This is a tale of comrades lost and prophecies fulfilled; of magically monstrous forces in battle. It is a riveting saga of those who thrive on revenge and are fueled by bloodlust, but it also tells of the even stronger powers of compassion and hope. It is about jealous rivalries and angers expanded to the scale of giants and gods, about brave sacrifices and heroic deeds, all within the turbulent world of myth occupied by heroes, gods, and monsters.

THURSDAY January 14th at 7pm: Monsters & Myth - PIG'S PLOUGHMAN pt2

"Vilemurk, the vicious Lord of Winter"
PIG'S PLOUGHMAN pt2

Tonight’s story features Vilemurk, the vicious Lord of Winter, also known as the Pig's Ploughman because he once turned himself into a gigantic hog and devoured the sun as easily as a pig eats an apple. The Pig's Ploughman captures Lyr, God of the Sea, by tempting him with a giant water crystal that blazes with rainbow light, and shackles the mighty god to an ice shaft that grows deep under the glistening fires of the earth. The Ploughman then freezes the seas, bringing devastation to sea life and seamen alike, threatening the world with a hunger from which it may never recover.

In another part of this ancient world, in a faraway place known as Eire, the Celtic hero Finn McCool learns of Lyr's imprisonment and vows to rescue him from the grim clutches of the Ploughman. He is joined on his journey by Kathleen ni Houlihan, daughter of the filthiest man in all the land, and together they set out on an adventure that will pit them against murderous smith demons, ice-breathing dragons, and ravenous mist crones who hunger for the wicked taste of human blood.

In an ancient time when myth and magic rule, the fate of a bright new land rests in the hands of two people. One, a brave young heroine, must face the risk of never seeing her family again as she plunges into confrontation against a vicious enemy. The other, a Celtic warrior, alone has the power to melt the icy indifference that the Pig's Plough man has cast over an unsuspecting world.

THURSDAY November 12th at 7pm: Monsters & Myth - AMYCUS pt2

"Revenge, love and greed"
Monsters & Mythology
AMYCUS pt2

Amycus – a brass-headed giant born of Brontes, the cleverest of the Cyclopes, and Liana, a beautiful young Nereid. The huge, one-eyed Brontes falls in love with Liana, but she refuses he advances because of his ugly face. The wise Cyclops then forges himself a head of gold – replaced later by a head of brass – which wins him the favor of the sea nymph he loves. Little does he suspect that their passion will one day give birth to an evil giant who will terrorize all the land.
Amycus soon becomes a pawn in the fierce battle between Athena, the goddess of wisdom, and Poseidon god of the sea, who each wish to rule a certain small fishing village that is destined to grow into a great and brilliant city. Also involved in the struggle are the heroic Spartan twins, Castor and Pollux, who are joined by Jason, the future leader of the Argonauts, as they journey to the island of Bebrycos to slay Amycus.
The story of Amycus revolves around jealousy and revenge, love and greed, as brave Spartans and an exiled king challenge flame-spitting dragons and a brass-headed giant in a violent struggle for honor and glory. The feud between two mighty gods grows more and more viscous as it entangles thousands of lives, causing countless deaths and spawning a multitude of monsters – the worst of which is the Horrible Head, Amycus.

THURSDAY January 30th at 7pm: Monsters & Myth - THE FURIES pt2

"Wrath of the hell hags"
Monsters & Mythology
THE FURIES pt2

The Furies... three brass-winged hell hags whose mission it is to torment those who have especially displeased Hades. These three sisters, Tis, Ally, and Meg, take pride in raking flesh off condemned men, leaving them to suffer throughout eternity. When his so Apollo is wronged, Zeus borrows the hags from Hades to avenge him. The Furies are thus unleashed on an unsuspecting world; they fly over the land wielding their whips and claws, tearing apart anyone who dares to stand in their way. The Furies' main quarry is Helios, the original sun god, who has stolen back Apollo's sun chariot in order to take his newly found daughter, Circe, for a joyride through the skies. After being knocked out of his chariot by a thunderbolt from Zeus, Helios disappears, trying to escape from the vicious sisters. While hunting desperately for her father, Circe meets Dione, the Oak Goddess, who teaches the young girl all about good magic, the only thing that can save her father from the wrath of the hell hags. The story of the Furies takes place in a jealous, vengeful world full of deceit, trickery, and danger. But it is a world of beauty, too; for out of its depths rises a young girl, Circe, whose love for her father outweighs all of the horrors that lie in her path to happiness.
