SUNDAY, October 20th at 1:30pm: THE HALLOWEEN TREE Continues

"They soared over hills and meadows and farms. They saw themselves reflected in dusky moon-bright streams, creeks, rivers. They brushed down over ancient trees. The wind stirred by their passing shook down whole government mints of coins, leaves, bright showering to the black-grassed earth. They flew over the town and thought—

"O look up! see! here we are! your sons!

"And thought: O look down, there somewhere are our mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, teachers! Hey, here we are! O, someone, see us! or you’ll never believe!"

SUNDAY, October 13th at 1:30pm: THE HALLOWEEN TREE Begins

"It was a small town by a small river and a small lake in a small northern part of a Midwest state. There wasn’t so much wilderness around you couldn’t see the town. But on the other hand there wasn’t so much town you couldn’t see and feel and touch and smell the wilderness. The town was full of trees. And dry grass and dead flowers now that autumn was here. And full of fences to walk on and sidewalks to skate on and a large ravine to tumble in and yell across. And the town was full of . . . Boys.

"And it was the afternoon of Halloween."

Ray Bradbury's transformative tale of youth, life, death, and Halloween begins, in the Story Tour format with presenters David Abbot and Caledonia Skytower guiding guests through the story while visiting the elements of the story and Bradbury's work that inspired the region.

This project is built in two skyboxes that follow the path of the first third of the story "The Halloween Tree"

LEVEL 1: It begins in a neighborhood on the edge of Green Town, a fictional Midwest American town that is the scene for a great number of Ray Bradbury's works, including "Something Wicked This Way Comes," the collection "Dandelion Wine", and "The Halloween Tree."

LEVEL 2: Moundshroud's House - The Halloween Tree. The path picks up in the center of the ravine, approaching the home of Mr Moundshroud, with The Halloween Tree on the grounds, and a path to the Kite Barn, where the first third of the story concludes. Reference to places that the boys and Mr Moundshroud visit in their succeeding adventure are represented within Moundshroud's House in this Project.

The Bradbury Project uses the “Caledonian Studios” and “Quantum Products” experiences. Accept these to navigate and see the project as designed. We recommend that you set your draw distances to 125, and use shared environment.

As a fallback, you could set your viewer EEP to A-6PM or any other dusk-like EEP.  It will not look as good as the EEP the build was created for, but it will suffice.

The Bradbury Project will remain open through November 16th.

OPENING OCTOBER 6th: The Bradbury Project *NEW* from Seanchai Library

Seanchai Library is proud to announce the newest edition to its Special Projects Series. These literature-immersive experiences allow guests to walk in the footsteps of the characters that inhabit the world of a work of fiction: exploring environments inspired by the words of the story, and hearing those words presented live. The best known of these is the popular holiday tradition The Dickens Project. Inspired, in part, by Charles Dickens’ 1843 novella A Christmas Carol this project will return to Second Life ® for its 2023 Edition in December. The newest project is focused on the work of American author and screenwriter, Ray Bradbury, and features his short story “The Halloween Tree.” The Bradbury Project will open on October 6th and remain open through November 16th.

NOTE:
This project features an experience-based teleport system introduced at The Dickens Project in 2022. Please accept the “Caledonian Studios” Experience when it is offered to you at the first teleportal outside of Seanchai Library’s main branch on Nowhereville. https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Nowhereville/204/43/26

"We are really excited about this one. It taps into an enthusiasm for Halloween that many of our regular community shares. The story addresses how we think about and deal with death in a way that is healthy, I believe," said Caledonia Skytower of Seanchai Library. "We get as immersed in creating our projects as we hope our guests do in experiencing them. But there is something special about this one. There is so much farther we could take it, and that is inspiring."  The Bradbury Project is patterned after the popular Dickens Project and follows the path of eight boys on an adventure to save the life of their friend on Halloween Night.

COMING SOON to Seanchai Library in Second Life

Seanchai Library's newest literature-based adventure will be coming to Second Life in October.

Patterned on the successful, decade old Dickens Project, this new virtual adventure will focus on Ray Bradbury's "The Halloween Tree" and touch on some of his other works.

The Bradbury Project will be accessed from Seanchai Library's main landing point on Nowhereville, and will use an SL Experience to support teleportation and effects. https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Nowhereville/204/43/26

Events will include "The Halloween Tree" presented in a three part live reading at times appropriate for week night and weekend residents. Eclipse Club & Resort will present music-dance events, and some other short works by Bradbury may also be presented.

Check back to this blog for more information in the first full week of October for more details.
