SUMMER STORIES Begin Tonight, August 4 @ 7pm, with Fayleen

 

Summer Stories begin Monday, August 4th at 7pm as Fayleen Bellois begins a series of short tales by American author, critic, and journalist, Mark Twain.

TONIGHT: "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County,” written in 1865, was Twain’s first great success as a writer and brought him national attention. The story has also been published as "Jim Smiley and His Jumping Frog" (its original title) and "The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County". In it, the narrator retells a story he heard from a bartender, Simon Wheeler, at the Angels Hotel in Angels Camp, California, about the gambler Jim Smiley. The narrator describes him: "If he even seen a straddle bug start to go anywheres, he would bet you how long it would take him to get to wherever he going to, and if you took him up, he would foller that straddle bug to Mexico but what he would find out where he was bound for and how long he was on the road."

"James Herriot (1916–1995) was the pen name of James Alfred “Alf” Wight, an English veterinarian whose tales of veterinary practice and country life have delighted generations. Many of Herriot’s works—including All Creatures Great and Small, All Things Bright and Beautiful, All Things Wise and Wonderful, The Lord God Made Them All, and Every Living Thing—became international bestsellers and have been adapted for film and television.

Fayleen Bellois returns with more stories of people and their furry companions from the the short works of James Herriot.

James Alfred Wight OBE FRCVS, better known by his pen name James Herriot, was a British veterinary surgeon and author. Wight graduated from Glasgow Veterinary College in 1939, returning to England to become a veterinary surgeon in Yorkshire, where he practiced for almost 50 years. He is best known for writing a series of eight books set in the 1930s–1950s Yorkshire Dales about veterinary practice, animals, and their owners, which began with If Only They Could Talk, first published in 1970. Over the decades, the series of books has sold some 60 million copies.

TUESDAY, June 25th at 7pm: MAKING SCENES at "A Midsummer Night's Dream"

A different kind of tour of Aoife Lorefield's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" Project on LEA 2.  In the creation of the region, Aoife reflected many of the settings found in Shakespeare's play.

Tonight, Kayden, Aoife, Fayleen and Cale place the words of the Bard in those locations, as they read selected scenes at various locations throughout the region.  Slip on your walking shoes and be prepared for a Shakespearean story tour, and Kayden and friends "Make Scenes" on LEA 2
