He can equally tickle your funny bone and frighten the "bejeezus" out of you.  There are certainly many contemporary authors in this genre from Steven King to Anne Rice with a bit of Clive Barker in between.  But we have a special place in our hearts at Seanchai Library for the tousle-haired Mr. Gaiman. So that's what we are sharing tonight - Caledonia is joined by Kayden Oconnell.

E.F. Benson

Best known for his "Mapp & Lucia" series of tales, Edward Frederic Benson was a prodigious and productive English novelist, biographer, memoirist, archaeologist and short story writer. He also was a keen hand with ghost story.

THIS WEEK: Edgar Allan Poe. We are are guests of the Ravenheart Museum, which currently features a new exhibition "A Conspiracy of Ravens" - there to share some of the works of the "Master of the Macabre" - Mrs. Poe's bouncing baby boy, little Edgar.

THIS WEEK: 
M.R. James  

James redefined the ghost story for the new century by abandoning many of the formal Gothic clichés of his predecessors and using more realistic contemporary settings. However, James's protagonists and plots tend to reflect his own antiquarian interests. Accordingly, he is known as the originator of the "antiquarian ghost story".

TUESDAY, October 4th at 7:00pm: MADNESS & Other Tales

Trolley gets her spook on with "Spooky Stories" from the interpretive pen of S.E. Schosser: "The Missing Bride", "Bean Night", "Madness", and "The Treasure and the Cats" in honor of Miss Sadie and other familiars.

S.E. "Sandy" Schlosser has been telling stories since she was a child, when games of "let's pretend" quickly built themselves into full-length tales acted out with friends. A graduate of both Houghton College and the Institute of Children's Literature, Sandy received her MLS from Rutgers University while working as a full-time music teacher and a freelance author.

Sandy is the webmaster and writer of an award-winning, internationally-known web site called American Folklore (http://www.americanfolklore.net) that features re-tellings of folktales from each state. She travels extensively, researching supernatural folklore all over the United States.  Sandy also spends many hours answering questions from visitors to the American Folklore web site. Her favorite e-mails come from other folklore enthusiasts who delight in practicing the old tradition of who can tell the tallest tale.
