So it's fixes: Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes are to wed in a church-conducted ceremony, in the family chapel. There’s just the small issue of ownership: the house (and chapel) is not exactly his, and he is most definitely not welcome there. Of course, such obstacles have never deterred Sherlock Holmes before, and they certainly won’t keep him from concocting an elaborate scheme to evade angry dogs and armed butlers—all in the name of wedded bliss.

When last we saw Mary, she had infiltrated Margery Childe's "Temple" where much good is taking place, but some things just do not seem right - like a convenient series of deaths that benefit the Temple.  As we rejoin the adventure, Mary is about to get much deeper into the mystery, putting her own life at risk.

They deduce she is a formidable woman who knows Holmes's methods thoroughly and has infiltrated some of his secure boltholes in London. Faced with a powerful opponent, Holmes elects to frustrate her by leaving England entirely with Russell. The pair set off for Palestine for six weeks on a mission with two of Mycroft's spies.
