Caliph: Where will you find the crew, Sinbad?

Sinbad: The bravest of my former men will sail with me.

Caliph: That will not be enough. Where will you find the others?

Clearly the Caliph has heard the news - the chances of returning from a journey with Sinbad are very thin, unless you are Sinbad himself, of course.

Caledonia picks up in the middle of the Third Voyage of Sinbad, where the merchant and mariner faces his most terrifying peril yet: Death by Marriage!

Join us for this, and the remaining three voyages, presented from the 1909 "The Arabian Nights: Their Best-Known Tales" edited by Kate Douglas Wiggin and Nora A Smith, and famously illustrated by Maxfield Parrish., live in voice.

The Seven Voyages of Sinbad the Sailor - Part 1

Sinbad is a fictional mariner and the hero of a story-cycle of Middle Eastern origin. He is described as hailing from Baghdad during the early Abbasid Caliphate (8th and 9th centuries CE). In the course of seven voyages throughout the seas east of Africa and south of Asia, he has fantastic adventures in magical realms, encountering monsters and witnessing supernatural phenomena.

Typically ascribed to the Thousand and One stories of Scheherazade, this story was actually one of several popular tales that was added to the first English translation of the folklore canon published c 1706.

Caledonia Skytower reads from the 1909 "The Arabian Nights: Their Best-Known Tales" edited by Kate Douglas Wiggin and Nora A Smith, and famously illustrated by Maxfield Parrish., live in voice.

WEDNESDAY, August 22nd at 7pm: TALES OF THE ARABIAN NIGHTS

Thieves and princes, beggars and bureaucrats - magical and the unexplainable wonders await!

One Thousand and One Nights is a collection of Middle Eastern folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age. It is often known in English as the Arabian Nights, from the first English-language edition (c. 1706 – c. 1721). The work was collected over many centuries by various authors, translators, and scholars across West, Central, and South Asia and North Africa. The tales themselves trace their roots back to ancient and medieval Arabic, Greek, Indian, Jewish, Persian and Turkish folklore and literature.

Caledonia Skytower presents selected adventures tonight.  Hang on to your magic carpet!

Live in voice.
