WEDNESDAY, February 19th at 7:00pm: POETRY THIS YEAR

Caledonia shares selections from the poems selected by students participating in the program she coordinates for her State's Arts Commission: Poetry Out Loud.

The program's intention is to get words and language up off the paper and, literally, on its feet.  It is a dynamic, memorable means of connecting young people with the power of literature.  The poems Cale will share tonight were chosen by the students from an anthology of over 1000 classic and contemporary poems.

WEDNESDAY, February 28th at 7pm: POETRY This Year

Every year, 9-12th grade students in the RL State where Caledonia lives choose poems to recite in the national poetry program that Cale coordinates.  20,000 students across 23 counties.  Classic poems, contemporary poems, poems of all kinds and forms.  She shares some of the poems students have selected this year.

In the corporeal world, Caledonia works at her State Arts Commission with a national program called Poetry Out Loud.  The program is in its 12th year, and Cale has been working with it for four years.  Every year she has shared some of the poems chosen by the 9-12 grade students in the program from over 950 available to them in an online anthology.

Tonight, selections from this year's poems, live in voice.

TUESDAY, August 13th at 7pm: POETRY OUT LOUD

In 2006, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation started Poetry Out Loud - a National Recitation Competition that encourages the nation's youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage.
