THURSDAY October 10th at 7pm: CLAY-SHUTTERED DOORS

"When churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes"
CLAY-SHUTTERED DOORS

“Love may be eternal, but Lovers are mortal…
Aren’t they??”

Some restless spirits do not depart in peace because they cannot—or will not! Perhaps it is unfinished business that detains them, a bargain made, a promise unfulfilled. Perhaps a desperate yearning, their own or another’s, that knots that otherwise-severed golden thread.

Tonight we continue our journey through the ancient lychgate and across the kirkyard.

THURSDAY October 3rd at 7pm: THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN

"The Monster Demands A Mate!"
THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN

After recovering from injuries sustained in the mob attack upon himself and his creation, Dr. Frankenstein falls under the control of his former mentor, Dr. Pretorius, who insists the now-chastened doctor resume his experiments in creating new life. Meanwhile, the Monster remains on the run from those who wish to destroy him without understanding that his intentions are generally good despite his lack of socialization and self-control.

Tonight’s story, written by Guy Preston, was derived from the 1935 screenplay of the same name, and was published and released at the same time as the movie. That movie “monsterpiece” was created by James Whale, and is widely considered the best film of the “golden age” of horror cinema. Cue the lightning . . .

THURSDAY November 1st at 7pm: THE UPPER BERTH

THE UPPER BERTH
"something ghostly moved in my grip"

“I remember that the sensation as I put my hands forward was as though I were plunging them into the air of a damp cellar, and from behind the curtains came a gust of wind that smelled horribly of stagnant sea-water. I laid hold of something that had the shape of a man’s arm, but was smooth, and wet, and icy cold.”

THURSDAY October 26th at 7pm: TRUE LIFE GHOST STORIES

"strange happenings and ghostly 'stay-behinds'"
TRUE LIFE GHOST STORIES

What exactly is a ghost? Something people dream up in their cups or on a sickbed? Far from it. Ghosts - apparitions of "dead" people or sound associated with invisible human beings - are the surviving memories of people. They are people who have not been able to make the transition from their physical state into the world of spirits. They are the souls we will visit with tonight at the Seanchai Library.

THURSDAY October 19th at 7pm: THE HAUNTERS and the HAUNTED

"JOIN US AT OCTOBERVILLE!"
THE HAUNTERS and the HAUNTED

No one would stay in this London house more than a few hours. Each one who would talk about what had happened had experienced something different. Disembodied hands and feet and footsteps and all shapes and colors and sizes of presences seek to terrify anyone who stays in this house. The malignant spirit of a wronged husband wreaking vengeance against the house and all who dwell within it - even from beyond the grave!

An 1843 story that is the archetype for all Haunted House stories to follow, from the author who gave us the famous opening line "It was a dark and stormy night.."

"a voice from the dead"
ZOMBIES!! The Grave Gives Up

IT WAS A melancholy night. Dampness impregnated the sultry autumn air. The light of the moon filtered faintly through a huge black cloud that hung over the face of the heavens. Somewhere from the great swamp near the graveyard a whippoor-will sobbed; and the throbbing sound echoed the anguish in the heart of Gordon Lane.

TUESDAY, October 14th at 7PM: THE SPOOKY & THE LYRICAL

Poetry, we mean.  October-ish poetry. Poetry that can speak with beauty of falling leaves and rich amber twilights, such as is shown below, or poetry that can speak of goblin pursuits, such as Robert Burns' "Tamoshanter."  Luna will provide the lyricism, and Caledonia the spooks as they share October poems tonight.

The trees are in their autumn beauty,
    The woodland paths are dry,
Under the October twilight the water
Mirrors a still sky;
Upon the brimming water among the stones
Are nine-and-fifty swans.

(First stanza of "The Wild Swans and Coole" by William Butler Yeats)

Luna Branwen, and Caledonia Skytower, live in voice.
