HABITAT says "Thank You!"

This is our third time around with Habitat for Humanity, and it always feels great to get their acknowledgement.

Do you sometimes find you want to make a difference in the world, but you just don't have the means to?  I know I do (CS).  Yet everyone at Seanchai, the staff (all volunteers) and the family and guests that sit in the chairs session after session, do make a difference.  Not a huge, earth-shattering, headline-busting difference.  But someone, somewhere will have a new kitchen sink, in a clean, decent home just because we shared stories.

Ain't it amazing?

Because sometimes it is hard to read these images in the size we are constrained to in Blogger, let me transcribe this bit in readable type:

All sessions at the Seanchai Library are offered free to Second Life (c) Residents.  Guests are welcome to join us in donating to our featured charity.  Our featured charity for July-August is WildAid (http://wildaid.org)  WildAid's mission is to end the illegal wildlife trade in our lifetimes They operate six different programs focusing on elephants, rhinos, sharks, tigers, marine protection, and climate change.

We received a lovely thank  you letter this week from Portland's Xerces Society for the donations passed along to them from January and February story sessions, including the exciting conclusion of The Beekeeper's Apprentice by Laurie R. King, which seemed appropriate.

These letters are sweet - here's another one from our September-October featured charity.  It's all the sweeter because this modest effort is not just about one person or even one, or two.  It is about many people sharing their mutual love of stories.

DONATION TO LITTLE KIDS ROCK!

Thanks to everyone who joined us in supporting this great charity in July and August!  $65 U.S. sent to help make music an active part of children's lives - educating, enriching, and inspiring!

HEIFER INTERNATIONAL DONATION RECEIVED!

 

Another great effort by Seanchai Library Staff and Supporters.  Money off to Heifer International in support of that Llama!  All kidding aside, another great example of virtual activity with real world impact!  Thanks One and All!

WE'RE GETTING A LLAMA!!!

Okay, we know what you are thinking: "Don't we already have a llama?  The original one: Mr. Shamma Llama Ding-Dong himself?  Mr. Shandon Loring?"  Well, we are not getting OUR Llama, we are getting "A Llama" as our donation to the May-June featured Charity Heifer International. All together , we will donate over $100 U.S. and with that we will be contributing towards the purchase of a Llama which will be given to some worthy household to help them build a sustainable life!

The Library will be dark Wednesday night, July 10th.  But the stories will be back Thursday night with Mr. Shamma Llama Ding-Dong - our Seanchai, Shandon Loring who will be taking us on a trip to Lake Atitlan in Guatelmala.  Seems appropriate . . . They Have Llamas There!!!!

We are so pleased to be sending our modest contribution to Project Children once more.  This wonderful, grass-roots charity goes way back to our own beginnings in (c) Second life as The West of Ireland Library and Cultural Center.  Suffice it to say that we cannot ever give enough to support this effort so dear to our hearts: Peace being built one child at a time.

AND, Just so's you know . . . we did send monies to the American Heart Association, though they seem to be a bit tardy in their recognition of that donation. (Baaaddd Non-Profit!) Here's what we sent, and you helped with that too!
