Kayden continues with more to share from Bill Bryson's woodland trail adventure . . . Bryson is soldiering on alone, without the frustrating comfort of Katz. But he has stumbled into some other strange places and even stranger people. In Pennsylvania, he finds the odd town of Centralia, a mostly deserted ghost town in the coal region. Centralia has the look of Fitzgerald's Valley of Ashes in The Great Gatsby. Later, Bryson runs into "Chicken John", the often lost thru-hiker of the trail. Bryson finally makes it to New England, where "the soil is rocky, the terrain steep, and the weather so bad that people take actual pride in it."
The Appalachian Trail trail stretches from Georgia to Maine and covers
some of the most breathtaking terrain in America–majestic mountains, silent forests, sparking lakes.
