Lalo is an artist, who missed his golden opportunity for love of his wife and children. Eking out a meagre existence in the gutters of Sanctuary, Lalo is sought out by a wizard who offers the painter his heart's desire; but a wizard's gift is never without a price. "The Rhinoceros and the Unicorn", by Diane L. Paxson, was first published in the Thieves' World anthology, Shadows of Sanctuary in 1981. Story shared in voice.
