Edgar Allan Poe. Born on this day in 1809. He was often drunk and always broke, but some claim it was this inner life that contributed to his wayward genius. He related to us his feverish nightmares, his macabre tales, his obsession with death. He also gave us lyrical poems of unsurpassed beauty, and he was the father of the modern detective novel. Join us tonight to celebrate this man that walked the earth for a mere 40 years and yet continues to influence the world two centuries after his death.
