Urchins in Dickens' London first appeared in The Dickens Project 2018.

Its goals are to have fun exploring the Dickens Project, learn about the lives of poor children in that era, and engage in freeform role play.

To play, you need the Urchins hud. Look for an information kiosk in the main plaza. Find your way to Old Joe's pawn shop. Or look for the broken-down boathouse on the mudflats.

You now have a folder of stuff: the Urchins hud, a titler (if you want a different name when you are an urchin), a notecard with instructions on how to begin, and a notecard with information on resources for setting up a low-cost urchin outfit

Add the hud. (Use "add" and not "wear.")

You'll see info in IM about what you have and how long since you played last.

Buttons on the hud will give you the same information about your coins, supplies, and treasure. These are the three kinds of things you can find (and lose) in the game.

Wear the hud and interact with a variety of objects in Dickens' London.

Coins: Money in Dickens' London was weird. Pounds, shillings, and pence, oh my! It wasn't easy to come by.

You can find money, work for it, or steal it. Once you have it, you can store it or spend it. Also, there are ways it might get taken from you. So, watch yerself.

Supplies: This is food. Urchins can find bread, cheese, and apples. If you are away from the game (i.e., not wearing the hud) for a while, some of your food will go bad. Or mebbe the rats'll find it.

Treasure! Hard to find. There are ways to trade it for coin. There are ways to lose it too ... so be careful out there.

Work: To earn a few coins, click on the silver shop bells when you see them.

Notes: You will have choices, usually presented via menus. Results will be random. Many objects will remember you.

This is not a metered game. There are no trackers for health, strength, or skill. You can acquire coin, supplies, and treasure. There are ways to spend, trade, and lose things, but your performance is not measured.

If you get stuck, visit the Clues page.
