WEDNESDAY, March 29th at 7PM: Selections from WILD AT HEART

Nora Nicholson is about to step into a new and unknown world in West Africa. She finds work, forms unlikely friendships, and meets Hugh Beaumont, naturalist and explorer. Hugh has a chance to pursue his dream of exploring the West African rivers and forests, and finds himself increasingly drawn to Nora. He wants her to be safe. But after a terrible accident, Nora must fend for herself. Can she choose her own destiny? And will Hugh realize that to claim his heart’s desire, he musts master himself.

Aoife shares selections from this book, with which she has a very special relationship - Wild at Heart (An Explorers Club Romance) by Clare Alexander, Live in voice.

TUESDAY, March 28th at 7PM: OF MICE AND MAGIC Continues

More than anything, Benjamin Ravenspell wants a pet. But when he buys a mouse named Amber, he gets more than he bargained for. No sooner does Ben take her home, than Amber turns him into a mouse too. You see, Amber has magical abilities, and it so happens that Ben is a familiar-- a creature that stores magical energy. Together they each form half of a powerful wizard.

"... It's a good book about how friendships can grow. I am always amazed at how different others are able to portray magic in different ways, such as how its used, who can use it, why it's used. This is one of those books that have an interesting and different take on magic." ~ Reader Review

Faerie Maven-Pralou continues David Farland's fantastic adventure, live in voice.

SUNDAY, March 26th Beginning at 1PM: VOLUME IX ~ Seanchai Library Anniversary

Nine years ago someone had an idea.  That someone was Derry McMahon, founder of Seanchai Library, which began its life at the West of Ireland Library and Cultural Center in March 2008.

Nine years ~ 108 months ~ 3,287-ish days ~ Thousands of hours of stories ~ Hundreds of Authors ~ Dozens of Genres, and over $4000 in small cash donations to non-profits doing good works all around the world.

"We are not large scale philanthropy, " Library lead Caledonia Skytower discloses, "Giving back to the world community through small charitable gifts is just one aspect of what we do. Job #1 here is to inspire people with stories and literature, to enable or encourage them to read and to share the stories they love with others.  Stories are an intrinsic part fo the human experience."

It's a little hard to conceive how to acknowledge such an achievement. The Library looked to polite society to see if there was a guide as to how to celebrate a ninth anniversary: willow and pottery in traditional observance, and leather in the modern.  "That's it!" they cried, "It's obvious! A virtual Chili Cook Off!" . . . and that, friends, is what they will present today in both Kitely and in Second Life.

Dual Video feeds and Local Chat "Simlinks" will connect the two parties, enabling celebrants in both grids to see the other party, and to communicate in local text chat.

@1pm - Chili Cook Off: Stories and Recipe Exchange
(bring your favorite chili recipe on a notecard and drop it off at the library
before hand, or bring it with you and hand it to Caledonia)

@ 2pm - 4pm - Dancing under the Cook-Off Marquee turn up the
Volume  and dance to the HOT TUNES of DJ Dano Bookmite.

In Second Life (look for the teleport poster to take you to the party)

"Supernatural legend and folklore of Ireland"
FROM THE HEARTH

Even today, ancient forces stride across the mythical Irish landscape . . .
In Ireland, the supernatural is usually never far away. It lies sleeping beneath a seemingly peaceful and beautiful landscape, just beyond our vision but ready to emerge when we least expect it or when we inadvertently stir it to life. Tonight you will be drawn into this mysterious otherworld, a world of fairies, ghosts, and sheehogues.

AND DON'T FORGET!  @9PM - SEANCHAI LATE NIGHT with Finn Zeddmore!

WEDNESDAY, March 21st at 7pm: POEMS ALOUD

In the corporeal world, Caledonia works at her State Arts Commission with a national program called Poetry Out Loud.  The program is in its 12th year, and Cale has been working with it for four years.  Every year she has shared some of the poems chosen by the 9-12 grade students in the program from over 950 available to them in an online anthology.

Tonight, selections from this year's poems, live in voice.

TUESDAY, March 21st at 7PM: OF MICE AND MAGIC Begins!

More than anything, Benjamin Ravenspell wants a pet.  But when he buys a mouse named Amber, he gets more than he bargained for.  No sooner does Ben take her home, than Amber turns him into a mouse too.  You see, Amber has magical abilities, and it so happens that Ben is a familiar - a creature that stores magical energy.

Together they each form half of a powerful wizard.  Alone, they're just vermin. Soon Ben and Amber will find themselves pitted in an epic battle against a magical enemy who is as crazed as he is evil, and the fate of the world will depend on them learning to work together.

Faerie Maven-Pralou begins David Farland's fantastic adventure, live in voice.

FRIDAY, March 17th at 6:30 PM: *SPECIAL* THE QUIET MAN

A Seanchai holiday tradition, Caledonia shares Maurice Walsh's 1933 tale of rural Ireland, and a man who desperately wants to live in peace, but is goaded beyond reason to defend himself and secure the future he desires.

Like all of Walsh's tales, the politics of 20th C Ireland are mixed with a romantic sensibility and a love of that strange, verdant island.

Presented live in voice, at the Seanchai Firecircle.

THURSDAY March 16th at 7pm: FROM THE SHADOWS - CELTIC DARKNESS - tales from the otherworld

It's not just all about the "Good Folk" - though don't let them hear you say that! Celtic Tales span everything from Giant's stairs, to merrows (Irish merfolk), to strangely animated corpses.

Join Cale at the firecircle, where all good tales are told, as she whisks us back to our origins nine years ago: where we gathered at the West of Ireland to share stories with visions of an Ireland full of magic, mystery, and humor.

Presented live in voice.

TUESDAY, March 14th at 7pm: SAVE ROOM FOR PIE Concludes

Kayden concludes his tour of selections from Roy Blount Jr. SAVE ROOM FOR PIE.

"I like to eat an uncooked oyster.
Nothing's slicker, nothing's moister.
Nothing's easier on your gorge,
Or when the time comes, to dischorge.
But not to let it too long rest
Within your mouth is always best.
For if your mind dwells on an oyster
Nothing's slicker, nothing's moister.

"I prefer my oyster friend.
Then I'm sure my oyster died."

TONIGHT: Seafood!

Presented live in voice with guests Corwyn Allen, Caledonia Skytower, and Toothless the Dragon.

1940's Cork, Ireland
IS THAT YOU BOY!

The exploits of a gang of young boys living on Shandon Street in Cork in the 1940's, their scams and schemes to make a little much needed pocket money.

A sort of ‘Bowery Boys’ operation where headquarters was not Louies Ice-cream Parlour (The Bronx) but Julia’s Milk and Cafe Shop at the top of Shandon street where the ‘scams’ were hatched and the measure of a gang member was judged by the number of pints of milk he could consume at a single session and where new gang members were initiated by drinking a pint of thick sour milk brought in from Gills Emporium next door to Julias.

WEDNESDAY, March 8th at 7pm: More POLITICALLY CORRECT BEDTIME STORIES

Faerie Maven-Pralou shares more from James Finn Garner's re-envisioned tales.

"Classic fairy tales updated for the twenty first century. . . . Filled with plenty of chuckleworthy humor for kids and adults." —www.MidwestBookReview.com

Originally published in 1994, Politically Correct Bedtime Stories spent more than 60 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list, eventually hitting the #1 spot. Also a best seller in Canada and Great Britain, it has been translated into more than 25 languages and adapted numberless times for stage and radio. According to the Times of London: “It is beautiful. It demolishes, in few but elegant words, a dozen kinds of silliness. It is better than I can possibly convey.”

Live in voice.

TUESDAY, March 7th at 7pm: More from SAVE ROOM FOR PIE

Roy Blount Jr. is one of America’s most cherished comic writers. He’s been compared to Mark Twain and James Thurber, and his books have been called everything from “a work of art” (Robert W. Creamer, The New York Times Book Review) to “a book to read till it falls apart” (Newsweek). Now, in Save Room for Pie, he applies his much-praised wit and charm to a rich and fundamental topic: food.

In poems and songs, limericks and fake (or sometimes true) news stories, Blount talks about food in surprising and innovative ways, with wit and verve.

Kayden Oconnell with Caledonia Skytower (and guest) present selections, live in voice.

MONDAY March 6th at 7pm: THE CRUCIBLE OF TIME

THE CRUCIBLE OF TIME
- by John Brunner -
Far off in space is an alien race which is so much like us, yet so un-alike. From the birth of their earliest civilization through to their attainment of star flight as their star system passes through the galaxy, we follow their development through the ages.
Aquatic by nature, this race presents some significant challenges well outside the realms of anything encountered by humanity. But they are also driven by all too familiar hopes, fears, desires, needs, wants, prejudices, impact of religious ideologies, and the quest for knowledge we have experienced in the growth of our own civilization.

SUNDAY, March 5th at 1:30pm: TEA TIME Mysteries!

THIS WEEK: featuring Dame Agatha Christie

Four and Twenty Black Birds: Poirot is eating out with a friend, Henry, and the conversation turns to people's habits. Henry eats regularly in the restaurant that they are in and he points out a white-bearded man as evidence of his theories. This bearded man eats the same meal there on Wednesday and Saturday and always orders much the same items as part of his three-course meal. The waitress brings their meals and sees Henry staring at the bearded man. She tells him that except the previous week he also came in on Monday and ordered things he'd never ordered before. Poirot's curiosity is piqued.

Wasps' Nest: Poirot visits an old friend, this time in the hopes of preventing a murder. But whose?
