Seanchai
Library is proud to announce the newest edition to its Special Projects Series.
These literature-immersive experiences allow guests to walk in the footsteps of
the characters that inhabit the world of a work of fiction: exploring
environments inspired by the words of the story, and hearing those words
presented live. The best known of these is the popular holiday tradition The Dickens
Project. Inspired, in part, by Charles Dickens’ 1843 novella A Christmas
Carol this project will return to Second Life ® for its 2023 Edition in
December. The newest
project is focused on the work of American author and screenwriter, Ray
Bradbury, and features his short story “The Halloween Tree.” The Bradbury
Project will open on October 6th and remain open through
November 16th.
NOTE: This project features an experience-based teleport system introduced at The Dickens Project in 2022. "We
are really excited about this one. It taps into an enthusiasm for Halloween
that many of our regular community shares. The story addresses how we think
about and deal with death in a way that is healthy, I believe," said
Caledonia Skytower of Seanchai Library. "We get as immersed in creating
our projects as we hope our guests do in experiencing them. But there is
something special about this one. There is so much farther we could take it,
and that is inspiring." The
Bradbury Project is patterned after the popular Dickens Project and follows the
path of eight boys on an adventure to save the life of their friend on
Halloween Night.
Skytower added, “We are creating roughly the first third of the story in this initial build, with some nods to the rest of the adventure included. This project is about three times the size of the original Dickens Project in 2012. A lot of things have changed over those 11 years. Lots of great and creative people have been involved and, of course, materials and resources have changed over time. We have also refined the way we visually tell these stories, and the components that make them a good experience. There is so much farther we can go with that, and Ray Bradbury’s story is perfect for pursuing it.”
The
Bradbury Project will present Ray Bradbury’s The Halloween Tree live on
stream in three one-hour sessions, twice weekly, featuring two different casts
of voice performers. On Tuesday, October 10, 17, and 24 at 7pm, Shandon Loring,
Faerie Maven-Pralou, and Kayden Oconnell will present the adventure. On Sunday,
October 15, 22, and 29 at 1:30pm, David Abbot, Gloriana Maertens, and Caledonia
Skytower will present. Additional readings from other works by Bradbury are
under consideration.
Music
and dancing will be contributed to The Bradbury Project by eClipse Club &
Resort, presenting different dance parties between October 20-26th.

Bradbury Project was created for Seanchai Library by Dagmar Kohime, Gloriana
Maertens, Stevie Morane Basevi, and Caledonia Skytower.

information on The Bradbury Project will be available on the Seanchai Library

About Seanchai Special Projects
Special projects produced by members of Seanchai Library date as far back as 2008 and its first special adaptations of A Christmas Carol, Dracula, and War of The Worlds. In 2012 The Dickens Project made its first appearance on the Second Life grid, inviting residents to “walk in the steps of Ebenezer Scrooge.” The Dickens Project has grown and expanded from its initial 900m parcel to two full regions, supported by Linden Labs and featuring a variety of performing communities in Second Life.
Other immersive literature projects have
included Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Hound of the Baskervilles, and Agatha
Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express, Murder on the Nile, Murder
at The Vicarage, and Evil Under the Sun. Projects on the Kitely grid
have included F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, and John Steinbeck’s
Of Mice and Men. The Bradbury Project marks the newest endeavor by the
Library to create experiences that inspire individuals to engage with great
literature.
