THURSDAY August 31st at 7pm: THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS pt1

"Toils and Dangers of the Wilderness"
THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS

The Last of the Mohicans is set in 1757, during the French and Indian War, when France and Great Britain battled for control of North America. During this war, both the French and the British used Native American allies, but the French were particularly dependent, as they were outnumbered in the Northeast frontier areas by the more numerous British colonists.

WEDNESDAY, August 30th at 7pm: More from WILD AT HEART

Aoife shares more from her debut novel . . .

SHE HAD NEVER LEFT HER VILLAGE

The day Nora Nicholson sets foot on board the frigate, the Dolphin bound for West Africa, she steps into a new world. Unmarried at 26, she has no choice but to follow her brother Edward. How could she guess what would happen? She finds work illustrating birds for the naturalist and ship's surgeon, John Sharples. She forms an unlikely friendship with flamboyant Senhora Morena. And she meets Hugh Beaumont, naturalist and explorer, late of the 95th Rifles.

HE COULD NOT WAIT TO LEAVE RESPONSIBILITIES BEHIND HIM

Through the long years of the War, he had led men into battle. Many never returned. Now he has a chance to pursue his dream of exploring the West African rivers and forests. But he can’t walk away from problems, whether it’s bringing criminals to justice or protecting a young lady who needs help. When love enters the picture, can he find a way to have it all?

NEW WORLDS CALL FOR NEW WAYS OF LIVING

After a terrible accident, Nora must fend for herself. Perhaps she is stronger than she has been taught–perhaps she can choose her own destiny. Hugh believes old values are holding back progress. He is ready to defy his family to claim his heart’s desire–if only he can master himself.

WEDNESDAY, August 23rd at 7PM: Selections from DIVINE SECRETS OF THE YA YA SISTERHOOD - Conclusion

The final selection from Rebecca Wells' 1997 hit novel about the complicated relationship between a
mother and daughter, the tangled beauty of imperfect love, and the fact that forgiveness, more than understanding, is often what the heart longs for.

Tonight we learn the secret behind Vivi "dropping her bucket"; how a vibrant, intelligent, energetic young woman became overwhelmed by life as a housewife, mother of four, with too much booze and dubious medical advice.  Vivianne Abbot Walker simply came unhinged, and the fallout affected everyone around her, and everyone she loved.

TUESDAY, August 22nd at 7PM: More from "ONE SUMMER ~ America 1927"

What the critics say about ONE SUMMER ~ America 1927

"...Bryson himself is captivated by the events of summer, 1927. And why not? They included Charles Lindbergh's solo flight over the Atlantic, Sacco and Vanzetti's execution, Gutzon Borglum's start on the sculpting of Mt. Rushmore, the Dempsey-Carpentier fight, and Babe Ruth's 60 home runs—all of which Bryson covers in characteristically sparkling prose."
Publishers Weekly

"As a historian, Bryson is the antithesis of stuffy. He's a storyteller, pure and simple, and One Summer is a collection of a great many tales about people and events, centered on (but not limited to) a single season in a single year... Bryson could have written a book just as interesting about the summer of 1949 or 1913. That's because his subject isn't really a year. It's human nature in all its odd and amazing array."
Chicago Tribune

"Bryson is a marvelous historian, not only exhaustively accurate, but highly entertaining. If you avoid textbook histories because they seem too dry, pick up One Summer, or any other of Mr. Bryson's books. They are intelligent delights."
Liz Smith, The Huffington Post

Kayden Oconnell continues the adventure, live in voice.

THURSDAY, August 17th at 7pm: CALEDONIA'S BOOK OF DAYS

Books of Days come in many forms.  Monks once illuminated such books.  In 1864 Scottish author Rober Chambers published The Book of Days: A Miscellany of Popular Antiquities in Connection with the Calendar, Including Anecdote, Biography, History, Curiosities of Literature and Oddities of Human Life and Character - Whew!  That's a mouthful, even for a Scot!

In our times, the book of days concept sometimes realizes itself in mini-scrap books - sort of a diary or journal, but with more bits and bobs preserved.

Caledonia is working on a Book of Days project of her own: a collection of her micro-fiction and poetry offered to amuse, reflect, and inspire.  Join her tonight as she tries out her idea of such a book, and shares some of her writing, Live in voice.

As Sidda struggles to analyze her mother, she comes face to face with the tangled beauty of imperfect love, and the fact that forgiveness, more than understanding, is often what the heart longs for.

TUESDAY, August 8th at 7pm: KEEP IT BRIEF

Long ago, Crap Mariner swore an oath to write a 100 word story every day until the day he died. He's not dead yet.

But now he faces an even greater challenge:  can he get through an hour session with out one single story from the George the Pirate series?  Join us an find out.

Always unpredictable and irreverent, no subject is too sacred, no cow too holy for Crap not to pull it out, examine it, and bang it on the table a few times before putting it back where he found it - albeit slightly crumpled. Crap Mariner, live in voice.
