SUNDAY, August 31st at 1:30pm; TEA TIME at Baker Street

Published in 1927, THE CASEBOOK OF SHERLOCK HOLMES is the final collection of Holmesian short stories penned by Arthur Conan Doyle.  Corwyn, Kayden and Cale continue their mysterious tour of this canon of work TODAY: "The Adventure of the Lion's Mane"

Of the 56 stories in the Holmesian canon, this story is one of only two narrated by the Great Detective himself.
Holmes is enjoying his retirement in Sussex when one day at the beach, he meets his friend Harold Stackhurst, the headmaster of a nearby preparatory school called The Gables. No sooner have they met than Stackhurst's science master, Fitzroy McPherson, staggers up to them, obviously in agony and wearing only an overcoat and trousers. He collapses, manages to say something about a "lion's mane", and then dies. He is observed to have red welts all over his back, administered by a flexible weapon of some kind, for the marks curve over his shoulder and round his ribs.

Presented live in voice, in the Seanchai fireside room (downstairs).

Individuals rewriting their own pasts. Brave souls safeguarding the world today from yesterday. Fools tampering with Einstein's laws of physics. Stories exploring the wonders and perils of time travel, and humanity at its best and worst.

SUNDAY at 1:30pm: TEA TIME at Baker Street!

Published in 1927, THE CASEBOOK OF SHERLOCK HOLMES is the final collection of Holmesian short stories penned by Arthur Conan Doyle.  Corwyn, Kayden and Cale continue their mysterious tour of this canon of work TODAY: "The Adventure of the Creeping Man."

Mr. Trevor Bennett comes to Holmes with a most unusual problem. He is Professor Presbury's personal secretary, and Mr. Bennett is also engaged to the professor's only daughter, Edith.
Professor Presbury is himself engaged to a young lady, Alice Morphy, a colleague's daughter, although he himself is already sixty-one years old. Their impending marriage does not seem to have caused a great scandal; so that is not Mr. Bennett's problem. Nonetheless, the trouble seems to have begun at about the time of Professor Presbury's and Alice's engagement.

It is the story of strife, torment, romance, and triumph.  The tale of the Minotaur is essentially one of human emotions, foibles, and beliefs. It is about jealousy, anger, and passion magnified and illuminated within the turbulent world of myth occupied by fearless heroes, capricious gods, and ferocious monsters. Shandon Loring presents.

@9PM - ONE NIGHT WITH THE FAE
Caledonia and Shandon "take 2" with tales of sensuality and enchantment seen from the various points of view of beings all caught up in one supernatural night where the line between the worlds get blurred to the point of obscurity, and mischief is in abundance.

SUNDAY, August 17th at 1:30pm: TEA TIME at Baker Street

Corwyn and Cale go it as a duet this week with more from THE CASEBOOK OF SHERLOCK HOLMES, the final collection of Holmesian short stories penned by Arthur Conan Doyle.   TODAY: "The Problem of Thor Bridge."

Neil Gibson, the Gold King and former Senator for "some Western state", approaches Holmes to investigate the murder of his wife Maria in order to clear his children's governess, Grace Dunbar, of the crime. It soon emerges that Mr. Gibson's marriage had been unhappy and he treated his wife very badly. He had fallen in love with her when he met her in Brazil, but soon realised they had nothing in common. He became attracted to Miss Dunbar; since he could not marry her, he had attempted to please her in other ways, such as trying to help people less fortunate than himself.

Maria Gibson was found lying in a pool of blood on Thor Bridge with a bullet through the head and note from the governess, agreeing to a meeting at that location, in her hand. A recently discharged revolver with one shot fired is found in Miss Dunbar's wardrobe. Holmes agrees to look at the situation in spite of the damning evidence.

Presented live in voice, in the Seanchai fireside room (downstairs).

THURSDAY August 14th at 7pm: THE MINOTAUR pt.1

The Minotaur
The Minotaur—the monster anti-hero of this volume—is the offspring resulting from Queen Pasiphae's seduction of a magnificent golden bull on the island of Crete. The Minotaur is half-man, half-bull and fated to reside within the complex puzzle-garden, the Labyrinth, from which no prisoner of the king can escape. His hunt of human prey leads to murder and mayhem within the elaborate confines of the garden. Not until a young Athenian, Theseus, arrives on Crete does the action of conquest over this horrific beast begin. This is the exciting story of the monster in the maze who, burning with fury and frustration, becomes King Minos's means of spreading terror in the name of Crete. It is the story of strife, torment, romance, and triumph. The tale of the Minotaur, as of the other monsters in this series, is essentially one of human emotions, foibles, and beliefs. It is about jealousy, anger, and passion magnified and illuminated within the turbulent world of myth occupied by fearless heroes, capricious gods, and ferocious monsters.

TUESDAY, August 12th at 7pm: L.Frank Baum's THE SEA FAIRIES

The Sea Fairies was published in 1911 by the Reilly & Britton Company, the publisher of Baum's series of Oz books. Baum dedicated the book to the otherwise-unknown "Judith of Randolph, Massachusetts" — most likely one of the child readers who corresponded with the author.

Mayre Griffiths, nicknamed Trot, is a little girl who lives on the coast of southern California. Her father is the captain of a sailing schooner, and her constant companion is Cap'n Bill Weedles, a retired sailor with a wooden leg. Trot and Cap'n Bill spend many of their days roaming the beaches near home, or rowing and sailing along the coast. One day, Trot wishes that she could see a mermaid; her wish is overheard, and granted the next day.

WEDNESDAY, August 6th at 7pm: Selections from CHESTNUT STREET

Author Maeve Binchy imagined a street in Dublin with many characters coming and going, and every once in a while she would write about one of these people. She would then put it in a drawer; “for the future,” she would say.
The future is now. "Chestnut Street" is written with the humor and understanding that are earmarks of Maeve Binchy’s extraordinary work and, once again, she warms our hearts with her storytelling.

This best-seller was published after Ms. Binchy's death in 2012:

"I'd like people to think I was a good friend and a reasonable story-teller and to know that thanks to all the great people, family and friends that I met, I was very, very happy when I was here."

Caledonia Skytower shares Selections, Live in voice.

TUESDAY, August 5th at 7pm: L. Frank Baum's AMERICAN FAIRY TALES

Our Faerie has returned from her travels!  And she's brought L.Frank Baum, the Master of Oz,  with her!

Tonight Faerie shares selected tales from Baum's 1901 collection of twelve fantasy stories "American Fairy Tales."

Most people don't realize how huge the Frank Baum canon really is.  Like Arthur Conan Doyle, and J.M. Barrie, the entirely of Baum's work tends to be overshadowed by what is considered his magnus opus.

He is best known for writing The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. He wrote thirteen novel sequels, nine other fantasy novels, and a host of other works (55 novels in total, plus four "lost" novels, 83 short stories, over 200 poems, an unknown number of scripts, and many miscellaneous writings), and made numerous attempts to bring his works to the stage and screen. His works anticipated such century-later commonplaces as televisionaugmented reality, laptop computers (The Master Key), wireless telephones (Tik-Tok of Oz), women in high risk, action-heavy occupations (Mary Louise in the Country), and the ubiquity of advertising on clothing (Aunt Jane's Nieces at Work).
