TUESDAY, July 30th at 7pm: THE PENDERWICKS IN SPRING Concludes

The Penderwicks in Spring is about fun and family and friends (and dogs), and what happens when you bring what’s hidden into the bright light of the sun.

Caledonia presents the conclusion, live on stream.

WEDNESDAY, July 24th at 7:00pm: A CYBERPUNK SUMMER

"From Here to Nowhere" Series
by Polygonatic 91
Cyberpunk is a subgenre of science fiction in a futuristic setting that tends to focus on a "combination of lowlife and high tech" featuring advanced technological and scientific achievements, such as artificial intelligence and cybernetics, juxtaposed with a degree of breakdown or radical change in the social order. Much of cyberpunk is rooted in the New Wave science fiction movement of the 1960s and 1970s, when writers like Philip K. Dick, Roger Zelazny, John Brunner, J. G. Ballard, Philip José Farmer and Harlan Ellison examined the impact of drug culture, technology, and the sexual revolution while avoiding the utopian tendencies of earlier science fiction.

THURSDAY July 18th at 7pm: Monsters & Myth - THE SPHINX pt2

"A former queen fights to save her life and the life of her true love"
Monsters & Mythology
THE SPHINX pt2

The Sphinx, a horrifying flying creature with the body of a lion, the head of a woman, the wings of an eagle, and brass talons that can rip an armored giant to shreds. After Hecate, Queen of the Harpies, retires in order to marry the lame little poet, Thallo, Hades plans a way to bring Hecate back into his realm. The Lord of the Dead summons the Sphinx and orders her to kill Thallo, thus giving Hecate no reason to leave her grisly post. But the Evil One also knows that Hecate will fight to save her love -- which just might lead to a riotously enjoyable bloodfest! Meanwhile, Demeter, Lady of the Harvest, is threatening to cast a famine across the land unless she gets back her daughter, Persephone, who has been abducted by Hades. Receiving no help from the bribed King of the gods, the turns to Charon, the master ferryman, and together they attempt to do the impossible and rescue the April Child from the most murderous of beasts. Amid flying hags with stingray whips, hundred-handed giants, a ravenous three-headed dog, and wingless dragons that spit blue flame, a former queen fights to save her life and the life of her true love. Hecate and the Sphinx thus become entangled in one of the greatest battles ever witnessed, with the loser destined to languish forever in the Eternal Fate.

WEDNESDAY, July 17th at 7pm: Selections from THE NEARBY FAR AWAY

In this exquisitely written personal, lyrical narrative about storytelling and empathy, author Rebecca Solnit explores the ways we make our lives out of stories, and how we are connected by empathy, by narrative and by imagination.

In the course of unpacking some of her own stories Solnit revisits fairy tales and other stories as she considers life. Her ruminations carry her through tales of Arctic explorers and of Che Guevara’s great motorcycle ides around and through South America in 1951 and 1952; through to the romantic horror of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, and more.

Through these and other stories, Solnit consider the lives and works of artists and activists who experienced tremendous growth after witnessing or enduring great pain, and uses fairy tales to examine the idea of self-transformation. In doing so, she weaves these stories, real and fantastical, into a tapestry that charts the territories and extent of storytelling and shows how it allows us to explore, understand and even reframe who we are and how we might tell our own story.

Join Caledonia Skytower in in Ceiliuradh Glen as she reads selections from this remarkable book, live in stream.
