MONDAY, August 1st at 7 PM: More from TO THE VANISHING POINT

Gyro Muggins continues his Monday Night treat of sci-fi with Alan Dean Foster’s To the Vanishing Point.
When Frank Sonderberg insists his family make their annual vacation a road trip, his wife and kids are less than impressed. When he pulls over to the side of the road to pick up a beautiful young hitch-hiker apparently stranded in the desert, his wife definitely isn’t impressed.
But no sooner has the young woman, calling herself Mouse, boarded their motor-home than reality changes – and not necessarily for the better. Mouse, it turns out, is an alien on a mission and in picking her up, the family is inextricably joined with her in that mission. The universe, with all its many realities, is coming apart because the Spinner, the creator of those realities, has a headache. Mouse has the cure, but in order to give it, she must reach the Vanishing Point – and she needs the Sonderbergs to get her there.

SUNDAY, July 31st at 1:30pm: TEA TIME at Baker Street

TEA TIME  at Baker Street - continues at Tea Time's summer digs at the University of Washington in SL.  HIS LAST BOW: Some Reminiscences of Sherlock Holmes  continues today with "The Adventure of the Dying Detective."

Dr Watson is called to tend Holmes, who is apparently dying of a rare disease contracted while he was on a case. Watson was shocked, having heard about his friend’s illness. Mrs. Hudson says that Holmes has neither eaten nor drunk anything in three days.
Holmes instructs Watson not to come near him, because the illness is highly infectious. Although Watson wishes to examine Holmes himself or send for a specialist, Holmes demands that Watson wait several hours before seeking help. So, Watson is forced to wait, in extreme worry as Holmes mutters nonsense. What can Watson do to help his good friend, and how did Sherlock Holmes come to this tragic lass?

Mrs. Hudson is serving chicken soup and tea, with some healthful fruit on the side to help Holmes in his swift recovery.

THURSDAY, July 28th at 7PM: CHRISTMAS IN JULY - Christmasville

CHRISTMASVILLE
Everyone loves Christmas. But Christmas time is not a year-round thing...or is it?

In a town nestled between magic and miracle, dream and deja vu, Mary Jane Higgins embarks on a series of perilous journeys, determined to resolve the enigma of Christmasville. Although it's forbidden, she crosses train tracks, approaches the bottomless abyss, travels through a wilderness that "operates according to a different set of rules."

"Christmasville" is a trilogy (plus one) work by Michael Dutton. Tonight Shandon will introduce us to this series.

IT'S BIG-TASTIC!  It's the final confrontation - It's Junks versus Creeps - It's good versus . . . not-so-good.  It is definitely love and loyalty versus bitterness and pain.  Whatever else it might be, it is the exciting conclusion of William Joyce's deceptive and delightful adventure OLLIE'S ODYSSEY.

TUESDAY, July 26th at 7pm: More from BLUEBERRY SUMMERS

Kayden is back with more from Curtiss Anderson's reminiscences on summer trips tot he lake growing up.

Anderson revisits the notes and letters he scripted as a boy, originally recorded on his hand-me-down Underwood typewriter–his first foray into what would become a distinguished publishing career–to offer Blueberry Summers. Here, the nationally recognized magazine editor offers a funny and warm story of experiences that inspire the imagination.

MONDAY, July 25th at 7pm: TO THE VANISHING POINT Continues

Summer vacation trips are supposed to be chocked full or memory-making experiences: Snack food in the back seat, sandwiches with just that "car-broiled" taste, and games to while away the time when the scenery loses it seductive appeal.

That is certainly the kind of trip the Sonderberg family had in mind when they headed for Interstate 40 - a memorable trip.  And they got it!  THIS ONE is one for the scrapbooks complete with alternate dimensions, world threatening imperatives, and an unassuming hitchhiker who just happens to have the fate of the universe resting on her shoulders.

SUNDAY, July 24th at 1:30pm: TEA TIME at Baker Street!

in "The Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans"
TEA TIME  at Baker Street - continues at Tea Time's summer digs at the University of Washington in SL.  HIS LAST BOW: Some Reminiscences of Sherlock Holmes  continues today with "The Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans."

The monotony of thick smog-shrouded London is broken by a sudden visit from Holmes' brother Mycroft. He has come about some missing, secret submarine plans. Seven of the ten pages — three are still missing — were found with Arthur Cadogan West's body. He was a young clerk in a government office at Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, whose body was found next to the Underground tracks near the Aldgate tube station, his head crushed. He had little money with him (although there appears to have been no robbery), theatre tickets, and curiously, no Underground ticket. The three missing pages by themselves could enable one of Britain's enemies to build a Bruce-Partington submarine.

Submarines!  Intersecting railway lines! International intrigue!  Mrs. Hudson is serving a generous seafood repast for the occasion.

TEA TIME  at Baker Street - continues at Tea Time's summer digs at the University of Washington in SL.  HIS LAST BOW: Some Reminiscences of Sherlock Holmes  continues today with "The Adventure of the Red Circle."

Mrs. Warren, a landlady, comes to 221B Baker Street with some questions about her lodger. A youngish, heavily bearded man, who spoke good but accented English came to her and offered double her usual rent on the condition that he get the room on his own terms. He went out the first night that he was there, and came back after midnight when the rest of the household had gone to bed. Since then, neither Mrs. Warren, her husband, nor their servant girl have seen him. The lodger insisted on having the Daily Gazette every morning, and sometimes requested other things. All requests were printed on a slip of paper left on a chair outside the room where meals were also left.

Is it just eccentricity?  Or is there a real mystery - a danger lurking beyond that closed door?

SHE SELLS SEA SHELLS
She was a quiet woman... up around the rocks nobody much goes in after Labor Day. But there she was, here after October, stroking in as if the water wasn't fit to chill a lobster. I like anybody who doesn't care to tell much about themselves. There's a decent mystery in that...

TUESDAY, July 12th at 7pm: BLUEBERRY SUMMERS: Growing Up at the Lake

In this classic story of a midwestern boyhood, Curtiss Anderson takes readers into the colorful lives of his robust Norwegian family and their wonderfully familiar summerscape in northern Minnesota: the lake place. Sweet childhood reminiscences comprise this coming-of-age memoir set in the poignant summers of the 1930s and '40s. Conversations on the porch with Dear Old Aunt Ingabord, a heavily accented relative from the Old Country. A budding romance and heartbreak with young Sarah, who lived across the lake. Wild blueberry picking behind Turnaround Island. Joyful tales devoted to cherished dogs he had outlived–old Shep and Mickey, Nebby, and feisty Bunny. And fond memories of Clara and Leigh, the loving couple who treated the budding writer as if he was their own child.

MONDAY, July 11th at 7pm: "SISI: An Empress on Her Own"

A powerful novel by Allison Pataki. Sisi tells the little-known story of Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary, the Princess Diana of her time, in an enthralling work of historical fiction that is also a gripping page-turner.

Married to Emperor Franz Joseph, Elisabeth—fondly known as Sisi—captures the hearts of her people as their “fairy queen,” but beneath that dazzling persona lives a far more complex figure. In mid-nineteenth-century Vienna, the halls of the Hofburg Palace buzz not only with imperial waltzes and champagne but with temptations, rivals, and cutthroat intrigue. Feeling stifled by strict protocols and a turbulent marriage, Sisi grows restless. A free-spirited wanderer, she finds solace at her estate outside Budapest. There she rides her beloved horses and enjoys visits from the Hungarian statesman Count Andrássy, the man with whom she’s unwittingly fallen in love. But tragic news brings Sisi out of her fragile seclusion, forcing her to return to her capital and a world of gossip, envy, and sorrow where a dangerous fate lurks in the shadows.

Inspector Lestrade of Scotland Yard suspects a prank by three medical students whom Miss Cushing was forced to evict because of their unruly behavior. An epic journey of ten blocks, continues with Caledonia:

In the secret realm of toys, there are many mysteries. There is the Code of the Toys, which is as ancient as childhood. There’s also the magic of becoming a child’s favorite, the highest honor in the Toy World.Made by hand by Billy’s mother, Ollie is a special toy, “a toy who will matter.” He becomes Billy’s best friend, confidant, pal, and yes, Billy’s “favorite.”

But there are villains in the Toy World, and Zozo, the clown king, is the most feared. He and his toy henchman (the Creeps) have sworn to steal and imprison favorite toys until they forget their children and become forever lost.

When Ollie is toy-napped, Billy must rescue his beloved favorite from Zozo’s subterranean lair in the old Carnival Place, past the park, through the woods, and into the night.

TUESDAY, July 5th at 7pm: More from TRIGGER WARNINGS

Corwyn Allen continues to share selections from multiple award winning, #1 New York Times bestselling author Neil Gaiman, who returns to dazzle, captivate, haunt, and entertain with his third collection of short fiction following Smoke and Mirrors and Fragile Things: TRIGGER WARNING:Short Fictions and Disturbances

"Gaiman draws power not just from his storytelling gifts but also from his ability to work the crowd. He’s like a conjurer who shows us how the magic trick is worked, joins us in laughing at its transparency and simplicity, and makes us believe in it anyway. There are no real monsters, he assures us, only half-forgotten fears we have clad in ill-fitting masks (in one of these stories, a paper Maggie Thatcher mask). All the while we wait eagerly for Gaiman to pull off the masks, so we can see the familiar glitter of their eyes."
