TUESDAY, September 1st at 7 PM: A.A. Milne's NOT THAT IT MATTERS

The Quotable A.A. Milne:

Did you ever stop to think, and forget to start again?

You will be better advised to watch what we do instead of what we say.

Bores can be divided into two classes; those who have their own particular subject, and those who do not need a subject.

One of the advantages of being disorderly is that one is constantly making exciting discoveries.

Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.

Yet A.A. Milne was more than a quotable quipster and author of beloved children's tales. Join Corwyn Allen as he continues Milne's 1920 collection of essays and articles, NOT THAT IT MATTERS, live in voice.

MONDAY, August 31st at 7PM: SOLIS

“SOLIS”
by A. A. Attanasio

ISBN: 978-1604504026

Charlie Outis had his brain frozen a thousand years ago, but he wakes up a slave to a machine in a world of genetically amplified neo-sapiens, andrones, and autobats--fortunately, Charlie has a plan.

SUNDAY, August 30th at 3:30pm: COLDSHOT PLAYERS Return

Seanchai Library is pleased to welcome back the Coldshot Players: a group of fun folks in Second Life who get together to read (and write) plays, scripts, and sketches.  They don't rehearse, they share and enjoy.

THIS MONTH: A Halloween tale about a 1940s radio ensemble and their brush with the macabre, directed by Bhelanna Blaze.  A Coldshot reading of an original comedy-horror. Some scary moments, but good fun for general audiences.

Thrills and chills for everyone!

GHOSTLY HORROR ON THE HIGHWAY TO NOWHERE, live in voice.

SATURDAY, August 29th at NOON in Seanchai InWorldz: AN ADVENTURE IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE!

Join us as we travel through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's the signpost up ahead - your next stop, the Twilight Zone!

"The Lonely"
Some dungeons are made out of mountains, salt flats, and sand that stretch to infinity.  James A. Corry is a convicted criminal placed in solitary confinement. Confinement in this case stretches as far as the eye can see, because this particular dungeon is on an asteroid nine-million miles from the Earth. Now witness, if you will, a man's mind and body shriveling in the sun, a man dying of loneliness.

Join Shandon and Caledonia on an adventure of the imagination, live in voice.

WEDNESDAY, August 26th at 7PM: THE PENDERWICKS ON GARDAM STREET Begins!

THEY ARE BACK!  Rosalind, Skye, Jane, and Batty (plus Hound).

In the second book about the Penderwicks, the sisters are home on Gardam Street and ready for an adventure! But the adventure they get isn’t quite what they had in mind. Mr. Penderwick’s sister has decided it’s time for him to start dating—and the girls know that can only mean one thing: disaster.

Enter the Save Daddy Plan—a plot so brilliant, so bold, so funny, that only the Penderwick girls could have come up with it. But in the meantime, they have some other problems to deal with. Rosalind can’t seem to get the annoying Tommy Geiger out of her hair—and she can’t stand him, really. Skye loses her temper on the soccer field in a most undignified manner. Jane’s love of creative writing leads her into deep waters. And Batty’s getting into mischief spying on the new next-door neighbor. As for Hound, he’s always in trouble.

Caledonia begins the adventure tonight, Live in Voice.

TUESDAY. August 25th at 7PM: More from NOT THAT IT MATTERS

Corwyn Allen continues with more from the man whose wit and wisdom inspired a beloved "Bear of Very Little Brain" and so much more.

Milne was a noted writer, primarily as a playwright, before the huge success of Pooh overshadowed all his previous work. Milne served in both World Wars, joining the British Army in World War I, and was a captain of the British Home Guard in World War II.

Presented Live in Voice.

TUESDAY, August 18th at 7pm: A.A. Milne's NOT THAT IT MATTERS

A New Series begins tonight!

A.A. Milne had a delightful sense of humor. Apart from being the creator of Winnie the Pooh he also wrote short, amusing essays that he compiled into a book called Not That It Matters

"The simple truth, and everybody knows it really, is that collars squeak for some people and not for others. A squeaky collar round the neck of a man is a comment, not upon the collar, but upon the man. That man is unlucky. Things are against him. Nature may have done all for him that she could, have given him a handsome outside and a noble inside, but the world of inanimate objects is against him."

Join Corwyn Allen tonight as he begins this journey of wit and wisdom, live in voice.

MONDAY, August 17th at 7 PM: SAILING INTO THE FIFTH QUADRANT!

Okay! Okay!  There is NO SUCH THING as a Fifth Quadrant! (If you are a Star Trek fan, this might amuse you)

You see, we THOUGHT we were at the conclusion of THE WIZARD OF KARRES, but we were not. We were mistaken.  There is yet more to be gained from this particular adventure with Captain Pausert and his companions, Goth and the Leewit, the Witches of Karres.

All other "conclusions" are invalid.  Come tonight to hear the real, the authentic, the genuine conclusion of the adventure by Eric Flint and Mercedes Lackey and Dave Freer, live in voice with Gyro Muggins.

SUNDAY, August 16th at 1:30pm: TEA TIME at Baker Street!

Team Tea Time concludes Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's second collection of Sherlock Holmes Adventures -  "The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes.

TODAY: "The Final Problem

This story, set in 1891, introduces Holmes's greatest opponent, the criminal mastermind Professor James Moriarty. In a cat and mouse game that ranges from the streets of London to the Alpine Europe, Holmes and Watson play a dangerous game as the Great Detective labors to bring an end to a huge organization of criminal lead by the brilliant and devious Moriarty.  It all comes to a climax at the falls - Reichenbach Falls.

One of the legends surrounding this canon of work is that Conan Doyle wanted to finish it off at the end of this story, and so killed Sherlock Holmes.  By the time stories comprising The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes were all published there were two novellas and 24 short stories to this one character.  One might think Sir Arthur reasonably thought he could bring it to a conclusion, and he was said to already be working on the full-length novel The Hound of the Baskervilles which would be the crowning achievement of this canon.  Published in 1904, Hound was said to have re-ignited a fury among readers who demanded Holmes' return.

Conan Doyle would finally end the canon in 1927 with 56 short story adventures, two novellas, two full length novels and a smattering of short adventures and parodies - many generated by the author himself.  And as we know today, over a hundred years after Holmes first went over the falls, the canon remains a fertile franchise; taking on new forms and new variations even as the writing itself changed the science and method detection in Britain and all over the world.

BONUS: An encore presentation of the hilarious parody story "The Mystery of the Spot Ball"

Corwyn Allen, Kayden Oconnell, and Caledonia Skytower live in voice

SUNDAY, August 9th at 1:30 PM: TEA TIME at Baker Street!

Team Tea Time continues Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's collection of Sherlock Holmes Adventures -  "The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes.

TODAY: "The Adventure of the Naval Treaty"

Dr. Watson receives a letter, which he then refers to Holmes, from an old schoolmate, now a Foreign Office employee from Woking who has had an important naval treaty stolen from his office. It disappeared while Mr. Percy Phelps had stepped out of his office momentarily late in the evening to see about some coffee that he had ordered. His office has two entrances, each joined by a stairway to a single landing. The commissionaire kept watch at the main entrance. There was no-one watching at the side entrance. Phelps also knew that his fiancée's brother was in town and that he might drop by. Phelps was alone in the office.

Phelps pulled the bell cord in his office to summon the commissionaire, and to his surprise the commissionaire's wife came up instead. He worked at copying the treaty that he had been given while he waited. At last, he went to see the commissionaire when it had taken some time for the coffee to arrive. He found him asleep with the kettle boiling furiously. He did not need to wake him up, however, as just then, the bell linked to his office rang. Realizing that someone was in his office with the treaty spread out on his desk, Phelps rushed back up and found that the document had vanished, and so had the thief!

WEDNESDAY, August 5th at 7PM: More from BEAUTY ON THE INTERSTATE

Caledonia shares more selections from her recently published collection of short stories and essays.

Beauty on the Interstate” is a collection of short stories and essays inspired by life in motion on the highways and byways, where tales form and reform at a rapid pace, and reflection is possible, but only at 60 mph.

The highway is a great rolling stage for drama.  Some adventures are grand and expansive, complete with flashing lights, bells, and confrontations of life and death.  Others of these rolling epochs are simple moments of delight and justice, for where would tragedy be without comedy?

SUNDAY, August 2nd at 1:30pm: TEA TIME at Baker Street!

Team Tea Time continues Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's collection of Sherlock Holmes Adventures -  "The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes.

TODAY: "The Adventure of the Greek Interpreter"

On a summer evening, while engaged in an aimless conversation that has come round to the topic of hereditary attributes, Doctor Watson learns that Sherlock Holmes, far from being a one-off in terms of his powers of observation and deductive reasoning, in fact has an elder brother whose skills, or so Holmes claims, outstrip even his own. As a consequence of this, Watson becomes acquainted with the Diogenes Club and his friend's brother, Mycroft.

Mycroft, as Watson learns, does not have the energy of his younger brother and as a consequence is incapable of using his great skills for detective work.  In spite of his inertia, the elder Holmes has often delivered the correct answer to a problem that Sherlock has brought to him. On this occasion, however, it is Mycroft who has need to consult Sherlock. Mr. Melas, a Greek interpreter and neighbor of Mycroft, tells of a rather unnerving experience he has recently gone through.
