THURSDAY, October 30th at 7PM: JACK'S WAGERS

JACK'S WAGERS
According to an ancient Celtic legend it is said that on the night of Samhain, a night that is outside the cycle of time because it belongs neither to the Old Year that has just ended nor the New Year that has not yet begun, it may be possible to discern, in the mists that separate the world of the living from that of the spirits, a man who wanders in search of the road to Paradise. He holds his lantern in a hollowed out pumpkin, and inside it there would be a burning firebrand from the embers of hell.

That man is Jack!
Jack O’ Lantern.

"The darkness comes from deep inside.
It creeps up from out of your dark side.
Gnawing at your flesh by your graveside.
Of a life that you feel lives you mortified.
Creeping death shivers down your spine.
You feel it wrap around, you feel it reassign.
Your screams and visions will all align.
Under the moon they will combine. . . "

SUNDAY, October 26th at 1:30pm: TEA TIME at Baker Street!

THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES  Continues

Corwyn, and Caledonia continue with Part 4 of one of the most popular tales from the Holmesian canon - perfectly suited for the month of October.
Sir Henry soon meets Miss Stapleton and almost immediately falls in love with her. She reciprocates. Barrymore draws increasing suspicion, as Watson and Sir Henry see him late at night with a candle in an empty room.
Meanwhile, during the day, Sir Henry and Miss Stapleton go for a walk together, but are rudely interrupted by a furious Stapleton. He later explains to the disappointed baronet that it was not personal, he was just afraid of losing his only companion so quickly. In an attempt to make amends, he invites Henry to dine with him on Friday.

THURSDAY, October 23rd at 7PM: LIVING WITH GHOSTS

LIVING WITH GHOSTS
Do you believe in ghosts? Perhaps you were once in an empty house, you were alone in that room, yet your intuition told you that someone or something else was there with you. A creak on the stairway, the rustle of a curtain, a barely perceptible change in the air . . . if you had stopped and listened, what else would you have found or seen?
Tonight the ghosts of Europe's haunted castles and palaces tell their strange and tragic stories, with a little help from Shandon Loring who brings voice to some of the many spirits who have waited so long to speak.

Tonight:
The Loves of Lady Casteltown

Author: Prince Michael of Greece
ISBN: 978-0393039528

PRESENTED IN LIVE VOICE

AND DON'T FORGET!  at 9pm SEANCHAI LATE NIGHT . . . Sci-Fi in the dark to lull you to your rest, or to start your day.  Join Finn Zeddmore for Ian. R. MacLeod's "Nevermore."

WEDNESDAY, October 22nd at 7PM: BELLWEATHER Concludes

Fads and Chaos?  Are they really different?  Or might they just have something in common, even scientifically.

The sheep have arrived and InTech and it is all about to hit the fan.  Dr. Sandra Foster and Dr. Bennett O'Reilly are brought together and pushed apart by forces that they do not control and have not quite begun to understand.  But that's the funny thing about science - something unexpected and ground breaking is always happening while you are trying to find answers for something else.

The conclusion of award-winning author Connie Willis' BELLWEATHER tomgiht.  There WILL be explodable sheep!

Cledonia Skytower, and her flock, live in voice.

TUESDAY, October 21st at 7pm: MORE POE! MORE POE!

Edgar Allan Poe by Chris Vector - deviantart
What would October be without the acknowledged "Master of the Macabre" - Edgar Allan Poe.

(January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849) Edgar Allan Poe was an American author, poet, editor, and literary critic, considered part of the American Romantic Movement. Best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre, Poe was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story, and is generally considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre. He is further credited with contributing to the emerging genre of science fiction. He was the first well-known American writer to try to earn a living through writing alone, resulting in a financially difficult life and career

Tonight, Corwyn and Caledonia share selections from Mr. Poe's poems and stories - some that you will know well, and some which are not heard as often.  Presented Live in Voice.

WEDNESDAY, October 15th at 7pm: More from BELLWEATHER

Constance Elaine Trimmer “Connie” Willis is an American science fiction writer. She is one of the most honored science fiction writers of the 1980s and 1990s. Her books have between them won 11 Hugo awards, seven Nebula awards and four Locus awards, making her the recipient of more major science-fiction awards than any other author.
Bellwether, published in 1996, was a Nebula ward nominee, brings together pop culture, love, chaos theory and a study of human behavior. Dr. Sandra Foster studies fads and their meanings for the HiTek corporation, a company keen to find a means of predicting how fads happen so they might create one themselves and profit from it. Also working for HiTek, Dr. Bennet O’Reilly is studying monkey group behaviorist and chaos theory. When a misdelivered package brings the two together, coupled with a series of unfortunate events, they engage upon a joint project involving a flock of sheep. Even so, more setbacks, disappointments and surprises are likely to arise before the answers to their questions are found…
Caledonia continues, Live in voice.

TUESDAY, October 14th at 7PM: THE SPOOKY & THE LYRICAL

Poetry, we mean.  October-ish poetry. Poetry that can speak with beauty of falling leaves and rich amber twilights, such as is shown below, or poetry that can speak of goblin pursuits, such as Robert Burns' "Tamoshanter."  Luna will provide the lyricism, and Caledonia the spooks as they share October poems tonight.

The trees are in their autumn beauty,
    The woodland paths are dry,
Under the October twilight the water
Mirrors a still sky;
Upon the brimming water among the stones
Are nine-and-fifty swans.

(First stanza of "The Wild Swans and Coole" by William Butler Yeats)

THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES  Continues

Corwyn, Kayden and Caledonia continue with Part 3 of one of the most popular tales from the Holmesian canon.

This week, Sir Henry and Dr Watson arrive at Baskerville Hall sans Holmes. One by one the players in this local epic make themselves known against the bleak and ruthless backdrop of the moor.  Each in turn weighs in: those who believe in the legend of the hound, and those who scoff.  The mystery only thickens, seemingly as impenetrable as the moor mists themselves.

TUESDAY, October 7th at 7pm: More from BELLWEATHER

WHAT PEOPLE HAVE SAID ABOUT Connie Willis' Bellweather:

" . . . is about the process of scientific discovery. A Golden Age book about that would have been about a scientist alone in his lab (and I do mean his) discovering something and cheerfully utilising it. A later book about it would have been about a scientist working for the government discovering something and being afraid of how it will be utilised and going undercover with the discovery. But this is a nineties book, and one that specifically references post-modernism and chaos theory. This is a comedy about the process of scientific discovery, and a comedy in the Shakesperean sense as well. It’s funny and satirical...

"I like the story, I like the characters. It’s fast and funny and just outright fun."
