Arsenic and Old Lace at Haunted Fruit Islands
Joseph Kesserling’s Arsenic and Old Lace is billed as a dark comedy, but the energy and lighthearted atmosphere created by your favourite Seanchai storytellers is anything but dark. The setting of the play is the Brewster family home where the two aunts of Mortimer Brewster, a local theatre critic, live. Mortimer stumbles upon a dark family secret and the madness begins.

SATURDAY 27 October at 10am in Raglan - "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"
The story is set circa 1790 in the Dutch settlement of Tarry Town, in a secluded glen called Sleepy Hollow. It tells of Ichabod Crane, a sycophantic, lean, lanky, and extremely superstitious schoolmaster from Connecticut, who competes with Abraham "Brom Bones" Van Brunt, the town rowdy, for the hand of 18-year-old Katrina Van Tassel, the daughter and sole child of a wealthy farmer. As Crane leaves a party he attended at the Van Tassel home on an autumn night, he is pursued by the Headless Horseman, who is supposedly the ghost of a Hessian trooper who had his head shot off by a stray cannonball during "some nameless battle" of the American Revolutionary War, and who "rides forth to the scene of battle in nightly quest of his head". Join us as Bear Silvershade and Derry McMahon read this favorite fall tale aloud.

Holder feels that he must not leave this rare and precious piece of jewellery in his personal safe at the bank, and so he takes it home with him to lock it up there. He is awakened in the night by a noise, enters his dressing room, and is horrified to see his son Arthur with the coronet in his hands, apparently trying to bend it. Holder's niece Mary comes at the sound of all the shouting and, seeing the damaged coronet, faints dead away. Three beryls are missing from it. In a panic, Mr. Holder travels to see Holmes, who agrees to take the case.

THURSDAY, October 4th at 7pm: "NOCTURNES"
WEDNESDAY, October 3rd at 7pm: Petty Magic!
Evelyn Harbinger sees nothing wrong with a one-night stand. At one hundred and forty nine years old, Eve may look like she bakes oatmeal cookies in the afternoon and dozes in her rocking chair in the evenings, but once the gray hair and wrinkles are traded for jet-black tresses and porcelain skin, she can still turn heads as the beautiful girl she once was. Can’t fault a girl for having a little fun, can you?
Caledonia shares selections from this delightful and witty take on craft and romance. Be careful! You never know who will become bewitched! "Bewitched!" you scoff, "HA!" Well don't be so sure: this book may be by an Amaerican author, but it was penned in Galway, and we know how pungent the Celtic influence can be!
