WEDNESDAY, August 29th at 7:00PM: The Conclusion ~ ZORA AND ME

Zora has a theory that the legendary Gator King is stalking Eatonville, bringing death and distruction. In their search for truth, Zora and her friends Carrie and Teddy stumble unwittingly into an ugly web of envy, lies, deceit and betrayal. Just as unexpectedly, the three friends are the key that unlocks the mystery and the unlikely saviors of Eatonville itself. Written by authors Victoria Bond and T.R. Simon, this is a fictionalization of the early years of a literary giant. This astonishing novel is the first project ever to be endorsed by the Zora Neale Hurston Trust that was not authored by Hurston herself.

Sadly, this talented and twisted contributor to shows like This American Life has recently become a "Dead writer", succumbing to the cancer that he wrote quite a bit about in his recent book,
Half Empty.

WEDNESDAY, August 15th at 7pm: Part 2 ~ ZORA AND ME

Whether she’s telling the truth or stretching it, Zora Neale Hurston is a riveting storyteller. Her latest creation is a shape-shifting gator man who lurks in the marshes, waiting to steal human souls. But when boastful Sonny Wrapped loses a wrestling match with an elusive alligator named Ghost — and a man is found murdered by the railroad tracks soon after — young Zora’s tales of a mythical evil creature take on an ominous and far more complicated complexion, jeopardizing the peace and security of an entire town and forcing three children to come to terms with the dual-edged power of pretending.

Zora’s best friend, Carrie, narrates this coming-of-age story set in the Eden-like town of Eatonville, Florida, where justice isn’t merely an exercise in retribution, but a testimony to the power of community, love, and pride. A fictionalization of the early years of a literary giant, this astonishing novel is the first project ever to be endorsed by the Zora Neale Hurston Trust that was not authored by Hurston herself.

THIS WEEK: The Five Orange Pips! A young Sussex gentleman named John Openshaw has a strange story: in 1869 his uncle Elias Openshaw had suddenly come back to England to settle on an estate at Horsham, West Sussex after living for years in the United States as a planter in Florida and serving as a Colonel in the Confederate Army.

Not being married, Elias had allowed his nephew to stay at his estate. Strange incidents have occurred; one is that although John could go anywhere in the house he could never enter a locked room containing his uncle's trunks. Another peculiarity was that in March 1883 a letter postmarked from Pondicherry, India arrived for the Colonel inscribed only "K.K.K." with five orange pips enclosed.

THURSDAY, August 9th at 7 p.m.: The Hardwood Pile, by L. Sprague de Camp

Never pick a fight with a dryad!

Long ago, someone imported a Norway Maple sapling to New England, where it thrived and grew into a tree. But the sapling was aslo home to Aceria, a maple spite, who came along for the ride. She didn't mind being transplanted; she was happy anywhere, just so long as her tree was safe.
"Sprague possesses a sharp wit and a fine sense of humor."
-- Issac Asimov
First published in the September 1940 issue of "Astounding," The Hardwood Pile is a classic example of L. Sprague de Camp at his finest.

De Camp was widely regarded as one of the most imaginative and innovative writers from the late 1930's through the late 1940's, the heyday of science fiction.

In a writing career spanning 60 years, he wrote science fiction, fantasy and heroic fantasy along with notable works of non-fiction, including the definitive biography of H.P. Lovecraft.

A very small but very dangerous man hires Calum MacInnes as a guide to take him to a mysterious cave in the black mountains on the Misty Isle, where a fabulous treasure awaits them.

WEDNESDAY, August 1 @ 7PM: More from "BOXEN"

Come along and join Caledonia in "C.S. Lewis' Attic" for more incredible early adventures including "Scenes from Boxonian City Life," and "Than Kyu."

Half a century before The Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis created another imaginary world. The tales of "Animal Land," which eight-year old Jack (as his family knew him) had shared with his brother Warnie, soon developed into the Chronicles of the kingdom of "Boxen." In a succession of stories over the next few years, the young Lewis explored its history, geography, and the colorful exploits of its inhabitants in vivid detail, finally concluding with his Encyclopedia Boxomania in April 1928.

Tonight, more adventures from "Jack & Warnie" as they let their imaginations run wild in attic of their childhood Belfast home.  Presented live in Voice.
