Thursday September 1st at 7pm

With its rich folklore and diverse cultural and religious heritage, Scotland has been a notoriously fertile haunting ground for the recording and transmission of ghost stories down the centuries; those of both well-documented lineage and accumulated legend.

"It is all very well for you who have never seen a ghost to talk as you do, but had you seen what I have witnessed, you would have a different opinion."

WEDNESDAY 31 August at 7pm: On the Road with Kayden and Caledonia

So we've celebrated the sophistication of those overseas vacation trips that take us to the exotic and unknown.  Tonight we celebrate that most American of vacations  - camping and car trips.

Go on the Road with Kayden and Caledonia, as they celebrate the last moments of "vacation season" with a few unique tales of their own and from others including :My Jane Austen Vacation,Vacation 58 (which starts with the compelling line " If Dad hadn't shot Walt Disney in the leg, it would have been the best vacation ever!") and original pieces by Caledonia, OR Highway 20 and The Great Squirrel Hunt.

Stories in voice, with lots of laughs!

TUESDAY 30 August at 7pm: "The Microcosmic God" with Gyro Muggins (SciFi)

More science fiction at Seanchai!

James Kidder was short, retiring and pudgy. To millions, he was also God, who quite literally had given them life, culture and laws. He was not quite a deity but he was "The Microcosmic God."

Story by Theodore Sturgeon, offered in voice by Gyro Muggins.

MONDAY, August 29th at 7:00pm: The Conclusion of "The Pavilion on the Links"

Caledonia continues the short story The Pavilion on the Links from Robert Louis Stevenson's published collection The New Arabian Nights.

The story does not take place in  Arabia, however, but in Scotland.  Frank Cassilis, while living a life exploring the untrodden part of Britain and Scotland, camps near a seaside pavilion on the estate of an old friend.  Mysterious doings and midnight arrivals to the pavilion draw Frank into a web of intrigue he did not expect, with equally unexpected consequences.

The story was considered by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in 1890 at "the high-water mark of {Stevenson's} genius" and "the first short story in the world" -- setting the standard for English short stories for years to come.

With its rich folklore and diverse cultural and religious heritage, Scotland has been a notoriously fertile haunting ground for the recording and transmission of ghost stories down the centuries; those of both well-documented lineage and accumulated legend.

WEDNESDAY 24 August at 7pm: Cat Nights of Summer at Seanchai

We celebrated the “Dog Days of Summer” earlier in the month, and now it is time to celebrate the “Cat Nights of Summer”.

The term denotes a time when cats yowl and witches prowl, and harks back to "the belief that a witch could turn herself into a cat eight times, but on the ninth time, Aug. 17, she couldn't regain her human form," hence the notion that a cat has nine lives. " (almanac.com)

Join the Seanchai Storytellers for tall tales/tails of cats! All stories in voice, purrs and meows.

TUESDAY 23 August at 7pm: "A Gift in Parting" with Bear Silvershade

Certain he is meant for better things and desperately wanting to shake off the smell of the docks, Hort, the teenaged son of a fisherman, prepares to leave Sanctuary and his family behind. But the Old Man has one last task for him.

"A Gift In Parting", by Robert Asprin, was first published in the Thieves' World anthology, Shadows of Sanctuary in 1981. Story will be shared in voice.

MONDAY, August 22nd at 7:00pm - Robert Louis Stevenson's "New Arabian Nights"

Robert Louis Stevenson, first published in 1882, is a collection of short stories previously published in magazines between 1877 and 1880. The collection contains Stevenson's first published fiction, and a few of the stories are considered by some critics to be his best work, as well as pioneering works in the English short story tradition.

Caledonia will begin The Pavilion on the Links thought by some, including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, to be the high water-mark in Stevenson's craft, and the beginning of the English short story tradition.  As with several of the stories in this collection, The Pavilion on the Links does not take place in Arabia at all, but begins its journey in Scotland.

Presented live in voice.

THIS SESSION: "Words Are Opportunities"
Stories of all kinds are full of words, and every word has with it a thought or an opportunity for the presenter to utilize.  This session will present different ways for you to look at the words in a piece you are presenting, and use your voice to reflect those opportunities.  Participants will work on their own provided material to challenge themselves to bring the piece to further life by exploring the words within and the different ways they can enrich a story when spoken aloud.

~~ Please have voice enabled in your preferences, and your mic or headset functional to fully participate.  It is okay to just listen and "audit", but particpants with functional voice will be invited to read and apply ideas directly, receive and give feedback as part of this session.  To check your voice in advance, we recommend a visit to Voice Echo Canyon

~~ Please have a short story, poem, or monologue of no more than 350 words in length.  We recommend that you have it printed out nice and large rather than use the screen, as you may want to make notes on it as we go.

SESSION WILL BE HELD DOWNSTAIRS IN THE SEANCHAI LIBRARY

WEDNESDAY 10 August at 7pm: Vintage Paranormal with Rosslyn Guardian

Imagine Sherlock Holmes meets the X-Files!Storyteller Rosslyn Guardian continues a series of short stories written in the early 1900's by Englishwoman Dion Fortune. Ms. Fortune was a Kabbalistic Ritualist who, with her group, did esoteric work to combat the occult workings of Hitler during WW II. Meditating through the blitz in London, she later moved to Glastonbury to continue her work.

Although she wrote mostly nonfiction, she did write a few novels, very dated by today's standards, but her real fiction gem was this book of short stories."Secrets of Dr. Taverner"The character of Dr. Taverner is a Holmesian fellow who runs a residential clinic in the English countryside. With a background in esoterics he deals with cases the establishment couldn't touch.
